I'm back with another winner - With the Fire on High by Elizabeth Acevedo.
This YA novel took me all the way back to my teens, such a relatable read! Emoni fell pregnant freshman year, and her whole life's been about making tough choices, doing what has to be done for her daughter and her abuela. She dreams of working in a kitchen, and has a drive to create that keeps her fire burning bright!
, I devoured this novel! Not only is it an easily fluid read, but it shines a positive light on teenage mums - without Google, can you tell me 5 novels with a teen mum as the main character? I'm not out here advocating for teen pregnancy, but as a fellow teen mum, it's nice to see your (younger) self reflected in a novel, in a positive way!!! Balancing being a teenager, school, a child, decisions about your future, sacrifices and gains - Emoni, girl, I get it, don't let anyone put out your fire! This novel was on point! And the cover is 🔥🔥🔥
