I know right now the world can be a stressful place, especially if you have lost your source of income or are trying to hold on to your job and ongoing demands while working from home and homeschooling the kids.
It can be easy for our inner Victim to surface and channel Shannon Noll 😉 “What about me? This isn’t fair” can easily be a recurring thought especially when we see others who we think have it easier.
Those having to juggle work and kids can be resentful of those who get to go to the office.
Those who have lost their jobs are looking at the working parents and thinking “hey, at least you have a job!”. It’s times like these that it is crucial that we take pause to reframe.
I myself channeled my inner victim this week and it didn’t help my stress levels nor my workload! So let’s try something new:
Meditate and practice deep breathing, it will do wonders for your stress and anxiety
Journal or communicate your fears and frustrations. Don’t lash out at others but by the same token don’t bottle it all up either!
Adjust your expectations- you can’t bend time so stop trying to achieve the impossible!
Reach out for help - talk to your family, friends, colleagues and brainstorm ways to make things work better - this situation is only temporary!
Don’t accept defeat! It’s good to know that government support is coming but for many families this alone won’t be enough. Rather than go further into debt see if there are any other ways to boost your income - go where the jobs are even if it’s not your usual line of work.
As much as it can feel like everything is outside of your control, remember you are not a victim. Focus on what IS within your control and own the choices you make. We may not like the choices available but we still have control over the actions we choose.
And remember - you’ve got this! It will be ok.
