Weingut Bruker – Mephisto 2014 (86 TSW)
Markus Bruker chose the Lemberger and Cabernet Sauvignon grapes for his red wine cuvée "Mephisto". Are you familiar with the Lemberger variety? 🍇
it’s an other name for Blaufränkisch in Württember (Baden) Germany. Modern DNA analysis has revealed that Lemberger is related to Gamay and Pinot Noir, as well as the white grape Aligoté, through a common descendant called Gouais Blanc. In the 1920s Lemberger was crossed with St. Laurent to create Zweigelt, Austria’s most planted red grape variety.
Baden is a wine region that is named after the Baden region of the same name in Germany that extends over a length of 400 kilometers. The southern part is parallel to the French Alsace, on the east side of the Rhine, starting from the Swiss border to the city of Baden-Baden.
The northern part goes further up from Karlsruhe - and then deflecting to the northeast - to the Tauber River near the Franken wine region. This northern part borders the Württemberg wine region in the east. Furthermore, a small area of vineyards in the south at the Bodensee is included in this wine region.
About the wine:
In the glass a deep red color.
On the medium+ nose aromas of dark berries, cherries and red currants with hints of pepper, flowers and vergetable hints.
On the palate dry, medium bodied with medium acidity and tannins. Flavours of cherries, raspberries, light vanilla and spices. Medium fruity finish.
Goes well with beef, lamb, spicy food and poultry.
