This was the first photo I took in Vienna, which probably says a lot about me. 🍰 But genuinely, this was the nicest cake I’ve ever eaten! .
This is a Sachertorte, and you can only get a proper, original Sachertorte from the rather fancy Hotel Sacher in Vienna. However, the nearby Demel bakery also had a claim to Sachertorte (the creator worked there before moving to the hotel), and there was a legal dispute which went on until the early 60’s over who could use the name “the original Sachertorte”. .
Long story short: the hotel won, the bakery was allowed to produce the cake but with a triangular logo on top, and the world realized how seriously the Viennese take their cakes. It’s serious bizz. .
Now, Vienna is regarded as the coffeehouse capital of the world, so it would be criminal to visit and not eat a ton of cakes! That’s what I’m telling myself anyway! .
Anyone tried Sachertorte, or just thinks that it looks delicious? 😻
