I absolutely love our road trips when travelling in foreign countries. In Jordan, we had hired a small car – picking it up at Amman, and dropping it off at Aqaba. This was a time when we were travelling without any help from Google map. We had studied the directions, but as always, it is the “getting out from the city” which proves to be the most challenging 🥵
I can remember those comical moments very well – we had picked up our car 🚗 from a car rental company in downtown Amman, and got lost a few times in the city 😱, trying to find our way out to the highway 🛣 . We stopped a few times, and I had to get out from the car to ask for the way to Mardaba (an ancient town southwest of Amman). We were directed in Arabic, of course – but it was with the help of a kind gentleman (who obviously realised that we were at the VERY wrong side of town 😅🤣), who decided to “lead” us in his car 🚙 , that got us finally to the elusive highway 😛
With a honk 📣 and a wave of thanks 👋 to our saviour 🙏, we finally made our way (photo 1 & 2) towards Mardaba, stopping enroute at the Jordan River (photo 3), to visit Bethany Beyond the Jordan (photo 4), the site which is believed to be where Jesus Christ was baptised by John the Baptist. Across the river which separates Jordan and Israel, we could see the Israeli military control guarding the West Bank (photo 5).
