3 years ago to the week, I went to Japan for the first time, and wow -- what a fascinating, incredible, bizarre, mindblowing/boggling country. I saw three cities (Kobe, Naha (Okinawa), and of course Tokyo) over the course of two weeks, and only scratched the most shallow of surfaces.
It was my first time anywhere in Asia, and I've been asked a lot since then where in the East I want to go to next. I've had a sincere if obligatory answer (Hong Kong, if you were wondering), but in all honesty, was way more smitten with the idea of returning to Japan and seeing more, doing more, eating more (!) there before going somewhere new.
And so, exactly three years later, I'm finally making my second trip to Asia... and to Japan! I'm going to spend the next week prancing around the Setouchi region, days full of my favorite things: art, nature, local culture, and really, really good food 🍣
