Adult Learn-to-Swim lessons are breaking down barriers, transforming lives, connecting communities. We ❤️ it when you share your stories with us.
This one is from Sylvania Masters Swim Club near Toledo, Ohio, who received a 2019 Swimming Saves Lives Foundation Grant: “I am writing thank you on behalf of women from Iran, Iraq, Sudan, and Syria who learned to swim because of a generous grant from the USMS Swimming Saves Lives Foundation.
Our group of swimmers began small but grew each week. Joy, enthusiasm and laughter were never in short supply. Each swimmer cheered others on as they put their faces in the water, floated or began to use their arms for the first time. Instructors were often given spontaneous hugs, high fives or a kiss as these women could not contain their excitement and happiness as they achieved a new milestone.
One woman from Iraq shared that it had always been her dream to learn how to swim. Several women from Sudan had never been in the water. Unless Sudanese women live near water, they will never have an opportunity to swim. A woman from Syria had also never been in the water.
After receiving swim lessons, they are so very eager to continue lessons. This grant has given these women a new experience, skills to be safe and comfortable in the water, a chance to gather socially, and an opportunity to build relationships with women in our community.” We’d like to thank ❤️#sylvaniamastersswimming
for making dreams come true. 🙌🏼🙌🏼 And send a big congrats to all these fabulous new swimmers!
