Traveling to the touristy areas of Jordan is a different experience for solo female travelers than it is for male travelers or for couples. If you follow travel accounts on Instagram you’ve seen photos of these iconic places in Jordan. Maybe you’ve seen them in your explore feed as well.
You’ll also read captions from travel couples who gush over their experiences as they just loved the locals in Wadi Rum & Petra. They were offered tea & experienced the best hospitality. Well, if you’re a solo female traveler then most likely you’ve been offered tea as well as sex. 🙈
I’m sure some people reading this who loved their trip to Jordan are shocked by this. Before you blast me please check out the @shakira_the_donkey
account & read their posts. They share proof of the harassment women endure in Jordan & it’s god awful. I was one of them who shared my story & proof of harassment.
I traveled to Amman, Jerash, the Dead Sea, Wadi Rum & Petra & you can see more on my stories about my experiences & you can see how I dressed conservatively out of respect for the local culture. Even so, I was in tears every night when I got to my hotel because of the vile things that were said & done to me.
I’m only sharing this because I wish someone had shared this with me before I traveled there alone. Everyone who reassured me about traveling to Jordan had traveled together as a couple, but since my trip I’ve talked to a good amount of females who had the same experience I had in Jordan.
I hate sharing this because I love the Middle East. It’s my favorite region of the world to visit & I’ve had nothing but great experiences traveling alone in other Middle Eastern countries. I’ve been hesitant to share all of this for a while because I don’t want anyone to take this the wrong way. I’m not complaining just simply explaining & hopefully it can help someone else plan a trip & feel safe in Jordan.
