GOAL SETTING! We've talked a bit about this on this page already, but as I enter my last month of summer school I've been taking some time to reflect. At the start of each term I like to sit down and just think about where I'd like to be once the term is over, similar to setting yearly or monthly goals. We were taught a lot about goal setting growing up in school, and this acronym for goal setting called SMART goals. I didn't really put it into play until I realized… it's kind of unrealistic to just say you're going to do something and then not have any plan to accomplish it. And I know a lot of people that do this, so today we're talking about setting SMART goals.
A SMART goal is the following:
S - Specific
Specificity will help you create your action plan to achieve the goal
M - Measurable
Have some metric so that you can see whether or not you've actually achieved the goal and so that you have a mental image to motivate you
A - Achievable
You know yourself better than anyone, so you know the other things you'll have going on as you try to reach this goal. Make sure you take all those external factors into account!
R - Realistic
Be honest with yourself but that doesn't mean don't challenge yourself. The goal should push you but shouldn't be ridiculously unrealistic
T - Timebound
Set some sort of end to when you hope to achieve this so that it's not open ended
And that's the tea when it comes to SMART goals! How do you set goals and keep yourself on track?
