There's laundry that still needs to be folded before the load in the machine is done and needs to be taken out. But as I was folding dozens of socks and shirts I had the balcony door open to let in some of this beautiful weather and the birds were chirping my name. So, in the name of self-care, it's break time.
I'm just going to sit here for 10 minutes while the house is quiet (eldest in is school and the little one is still sleeping). The laundry isn't going anywhere. I'm just going to sit here with my feet propped up and the wind blowing around me and enjoy the quiet solitude that rarely exists in motherhood.
I love every minute of the daily chaos of our lives but I've come to learn in the last couple of weeks that self-care is not selfish, self-care does not make you less of a good mom.
Self-care is a gift, to yourself, to your family, to your mental health. If you're not ok, how can you make sure your family is ok?
Sometimes all you need is 10 minutes outside listening to the birds sing, other times you just need 5 minutes alone in the bathroom with the door locked while you devour that chocolate bar you've been hiding from your kids.
Self-care is a beautiful thing and I'm going to try to make it a priority in my life. Because a happy mommy (and daddy, because they're job is just as tough as ours), makes a happy family.
I'd love to know how you keep yourself sane in the daily chaos of life 😊
