What are your dreams?
What do you want in your life?
What are you doing to reach your goals and achieve your dreams?
It is always good to set your intention and then put the effort in to reach what ever your target is.
I always wanted to win the lottery. When the Wednesday lottery started on 5th February 1997 I decided to get a bunch of my colleagues together for a syndicate.
I think there originally about 10 of us and at the time it was £2 a week. We all chose our lucky numbers and I remember creating some kind of spinner so that people could randomly generate their numbers if they wished. As you can see a bit of effort went into this but it was such fun.
We worked in Waterloo at the time, for Ernst & Young at Becket house. I used to put the tickets on in the post office down by The Cut.
Initially we used to win a tenner every now and then which I collected up and then we had a meal paid for by our winnings. We were pretty social in those days and used to go out to lunch together all the time anyway.
When I left my role I continued to run the lottery syndicate, by then everyone was paying by standing order and the tickets were automated through a monthly direct debit. This made it easier to manage as winnings would automatically be paid into the account so I wouldn’t have to check the tickets. I still used to check them!
In my second role at Ernst & Young global my colleagues knew about my old syndicate and asked me to run one for them. For a few years I ran the two separately, but then when I left Ernst & Young and went to work at Cap Gemini, where some of my original syndicate were, I decided to merge the two syndicates into one.
In June 2012 I was on the phone to my sister-in-law one Sunday evening and multitasking I flicked into my emails and saw just a regular notification from the National Lottery saying ‘congratulations you’ve won a prize please login to your online account to check’. So I clicked on it thinking it would say I’d won a tenner. As the email opened I screamed that I had won the lottery. It all went a bit crazy after that as I realised we had scooped five numbers plus the bonus ball winning £74,667.
You’ve got to be in it to win it!
