I love to celebrate #milestones
, and it has been one year since my return home to not find, but fight for the holy grail....Liberty and Justice for all.
Hands down the biggest lesson I’ve learned these last 12 months is that change starts at home.
I have been blessed throughout my life with many places where and with many people whom I felt at home.
Tomorrow, I get to give back to one of those such places: HOBY Colorado. HOBY friends are like no other friends at a time in adolescence when everyone needs a wide safety net. Not everyone gets an experience like HOBY in their lifetime, and some people will never experience a fraction of the opportunities I have had throughout my life for no fault of their own.
I know that inspiring others to change and fight for a better world is possible because I have been inspired by outstanding people that organizations like HOBY bring together to make this world into the place so many of us believe in.
I know inspiring others requires vulnerability and courage (and I believe those things come from truth and love and kindness) and there are voices out there that want me to fail and want to get in the way of me making the world a better place; I know I am still not being vulnerable enough. I am still hiding comfortably behind my white straight cisgender able-bodied privilege. I know I have to start getting even more vulnerable and I know it has to happen soon....Time is a resource we never get back.
I want to work with you all to discover the best ways to build one another up and work together for the good of all people. I have so many questions about how to best move forward, and I know even the simplest answers (Love, Kindness, Compassion, Vulnerability, Enough, Mindfulness) require many actions and steps.
I didn’t mean to write so much, but words come pouring out and I feel we are in urgent times where we must overcome our shame and fear and speak about the ideas that live in our hearts. HOBY taught me to believe in a better world, and that we must serve our communities to build a better world, and that we must include everyone.
