How do you think the Steelers should handle these upcoming restricted free agents? Here’s some organization to help you make a decision:
LB Bud Dupree (@bud_dupree)-
Dupree is now considered a top priority to the Steelers management after having the best year of his career. He has made his case and he is looking for a big payday. The Steelers options? Limited considering there is 2 other restricted free agents Pittsburgh has to look into, as well as a low cap space to work with. The franchise tag is always an option, but after the drama with former RB Le’Veon Bell’s holdout last year, is it worth the risk?
CB Mike Hilton (@oh_thatsmike28)-
After his signing in 2017, Hilton has made a significant mark on the Steelers defense. One of the top slot corners in the league, he was sure worth the signing. But can the Steelers afford to do it again? Hilton’s payday relies completely on his and/or the rest of the team’s willingness to take a pay cut, unless some major cuts for cap space are made soon.
DT Javon Hargrave (@grave_digger97)-
Javon Hargrave has been a dominant and reliable yet surprisingly underrated DT ever since the Steelers drafted him in 2016. He recently signed with a new agent, which likely means he is looking for a big deal. The Steelers will certainly have trouble finding the money to pay for him, but will they get it done? If not, how easily can Hargrave be replaced considering the Steelers are missing quite a few draft picks?
Cap space options- The Steelers have quite a few opportunities to makes some cuts in order to free up cap space although it would make a heavy difference to the depth. For example, together, LBs Mark Barron (@kingme_2_6)
as well as Anthony Chickillo (@a_chickillo)
would free up about $10M dollars in cap space if they were both cut.
