Having grown up very religious, I felt I was given a narrative without the freedom to think freely for myself and this is something I always felt the need to break away from.
It’s not something I really talk openly about, but these are the very things that make us who we are. I had a very painful, confusing few years figuring out who I “was” and went on quite a journey. It was pretty traumatic, having to lose everything and everyone I had grown up with and feel “judged” for having the strength to choose my ‘own’ way. The things I have learnt have been life changing, would I change these experiences ...no. Would I change growing up religious? No. They make me, me. They have given me the foundations and values to set me up in life. I respect all religion.
With it being pride month, which is really important to me, not only is it close to home but given the topic of equality at the moment I feel strongly about all people being treated equally regardless of who they are and who they love. Love is a beautiful gift and should be celebrated and respected. 🌈💜
