Ever since my little beach adventure on Monday all I can think about is packing a bag and heading somewhere tropical for some time in the sun 😩 We all know the dangers of sun exposure (I talked about it in yesterday’s post if you need a refresher), so self-tanners are my preference when it comes to a bronzy bod. My preference is usually gradual tanning lotions and Tan Luxe doesn’t make theirs in a medium/dark shade so I had never shopped the brand (opting instead for St. Tropez), but during the Sephora sale I discovered their Body Illuminating Self-Tan Drops did come in medium-dark so I decided to pick them up. I’ve been absolutely loving them and decided to dive deeper into the brand so I picked up their Super Glow Body Hyaluronic Tanning Serum next.
Self-tanner works using a chemical called Dihydroxyacetone (DHA)-swipe to the second slide to learn more about it 🤗 Tan Luxe says they found a way to formulate it at a lower pH than usual, which means a gentler reaction with skin and odorless results (literally NO SMELL, it’s so crazy to me). I don’tt know if this is why Tan Luxe can’t make darker formulas (their medium/dark is like regular St. Tropez, which also makes dark and extra dark tanners), but you can’t buy a medium/dark shade of their instant or gradual tan products which is a bummer. I will say their formulas are great at creating super natural results and have a whole “free from” list, so that’s appealing.
The Super Glow Serum is part of their gradual tanning range. It contains two kinds of hyaluronic acid to effectively hydrate the skin, as well as caffeine and antioxidants to improve skin elasticity and resilience. It’s also formulated with 4% DHA, which doesn’t mean much to me because I couldn’t find the DHA content of any reference products, but it doesn’t do much if anything on my skin tone. That being said, it would probably be a great choice for pale skin tones that want to tan without looking orange. Fortunately, I bought it not expecting a tan out of it, but because I’ve been looking for a hydrating body serum after not liking the Necessaire one. So far this has been a nice alternative, but I’ll defs post an update after using it more!
