The end of an era: I have finished the Percy Jackson series. I feel nostalgic in the same way when I was done with the Harry Potter books. Probably because I rarely read series that are longer than trilogies.
I have written about why I love Percy so much, so I am not going to repeat myself.
🧜♂️ I really enjoyed the retelling of the labyrinth. I think this and the first book are my favourites in the series.
🧜♂️ I need to be magically drawn to the Underworld because Mrs. O’Leary, the friendly hellhound, and Nico di Angelo are my most liked characters. 🖤
🧜♂️ I was a bit surprised to find out that the whole last book is the description of many battles. I mean it is clear that the climax of the series would be the clashing of the Titans and the Gods/Percy, but the war started literally on page one. I don’t think this is a problem, I just did not expect it.
🧜♂️ I have never written about the Harry Potter connection, so here it is. I find it a bit disturbing that Percy, Grover and Annabeth are basically Harry, Ron and Hermione. Though Percy seems less dumb than Harry, most of his problems are still solved by the clever female side character. Why is it always the girl who needs to be super witty and into books? And then why is the main character the boy who is somehow special (and better than everyone else), so everyone just needs to suck up that no matter what, he will always be the big hero in the story. Also, Athena could have easily had a walking encyclopia son, while the satyr could have been a girl. Grover is also a lot like Ron especially when it comes to his fear of many things.
🧜♂️ About Percabeth: I don’t see why these two characters needed to be made into a couple. Middle grade or not, Percy’s and Annabeth’s relationship was dealt with in one sentence, as if it had been compulsory to create a couple out of them, but the author did not want to elaborate it. 🤷♀️
🧜♂️ All in all, I enjoyed this middle grade series. It has a lot of good aspects that I am not touching on in this post because I have been going on about them for a long time. If you are a kid, read it. If you are not, read it to become a kid again. 💙
