The other day I shared the amazing breathing exercise called 4-7-8 breathing. This post is another breathing exercise that has multiple names that all mean the same thing: square breathing, box breathing, 4x4 breathing, and 4-part breath. Like 4-7-8 breathing, square breathing can help calm your nervous system and decrease stress in your body. These breathing exercises can also help you connect more deeply to your body, as well as heighten performance and concentration.
"How to" of Square Breathing:
1.Breathe in through your nose while counting to four slowly.
2.Hold your breath while counting slowly to four. (Try not to clamp your mouth or nose shut.)
3.Begin to slowly exhale for 4 seconds.
4.Repeat steps 1 to 3 at least three times.
