Like everyone else, I have things in my home that are important and valuable in my eyes. Nine weeks of Indoor Time, and an interesting thing is happening: I’ve begun to pay more attention to the things in my house. Not unusual things, or sudden surprise things, but things that have been there so long that they no longer have a history. This one, taped to the inside of a cupboard door, allows me to do formula baking here in high-altitude Albuquerque. I use it without thinking about it too much; it’s just a tool. This morning, though, instant backstory! Twenty years ago or so I was whining to new friends that my baking produced things such as Earthquake Cake (totally collapsed in the middle), so Lisa - a wicked good baker - quickly wrote these three hints for me, and I never looked back. This little piece of paper, getting brown around the edge like a pirate map, helped me more than anything else to fit into a new home state. Precious, this.
