One year ago I was so grateful and proud to be chosen as the new Chief Instructor at Aikido New Orleans. It’s been an amazing year: we introduced a fitness/conditioning class (thanks Mack and Owen; we started a lightsaber Academy; kids class attendance more than doubled; we attended seminars in Atlanta, Florida and Hattiesburg.
It’s also been really challenging. Leading a dojo is a lot of work, especially through the transitioning process. Then covid19 changed everyone’s lives, and we get to explore new ways to practice aikido.
I’m grateful for the support and guidance of Larry Sensei and David Sensei (the board). Other chief instructors have been generous with their wisdom - Thank you Senseis Chris, Peter and Penny, Blue, Laura, Charlie, Joshua, Josh, Brian and of course Yamada Sensei and the senior Shihan.
Mega thanks to the students at our dojo Van, Mack, Owen, Marlene, David L, Margo, Teva, Brian, Eliot, Ford and Bert. It wouldn’t be a dojo without you.
And to my teachers - the kids! Y’all keep me focused and keep me playing. I miss you!!! I know that y’all are the Senseis of tomorrow. Arigato big time!
Even through the big changes and uncertainty we still have Aikido. Right now I feel we need aikido more than ever. I’ll continue to work hard to become a better Sensei.
I’m still grateful.
