LORD OF THE FLIES(not of the rings)
Warning! This post written by non-native speaker.
It's definitely one of the most crucial teenage book. As well as "Catcher in the Rye" and "1984". And it's not surprising cuz they are resemble at some point.
For those who didn't read it and doesn't want to. I have an option. You can(I mean should) at least just watch a movie Lord of the flies (1990). Plot.
A goup of people in the aeroplane crashes on isolated island. But only kids are survived. With no adults. So they should survive by themselves.
Let me crarify.
A bunch of kids should build a society from scratch. To make kids organised without adults. They should just become an adults. And all of that on them own.
But their "tribe" have splitted at two groups.
First group with their leader Ralpf. Ralpf represents a rational and wise side of our personality/society.
And the second group is by leader Jack. Who represent a dark side of our human nature.
So it's not surprising how the story ended.
Although understanding “Lord of the flies” means having to think about its ambiguities.
Because the book(and film) is not just a story about some random kids. No, it's about you and me for sure.
Some of us(I hope it's majority) behave yourself like Ralpf.
But unfortunately, there are a lot of Jackass. And this is part of our nature who are frightened and evil.
In our "civilised" society are violence, greed and wildness right now. I mean this story exposes an inherent evil inside us. Cuz evil is not external. It's internal.
Wars, genosides, humiliations are product of a human activity. And learning why some people starts to behave like this is an extremely necessary thing for us and for our society.
We did everything adults would do. What went wrong? - William Golding
