Make your new normal work FOR you, not against you.
Sundays are days of reflection for me. It’s when I sit down with my ☕️ and a notebook 📓 and assess the week that’s passed and what I need to focus on in the week coming.
We’ve all had to make adjustments to our lives the last 3 months. It’s been tough! And taking care of our mental health in a time of such great fear and uncertainty can be a difficult path to navigate.
For myself, I’ve been picking just one thing to focus on each week. What’s the one area where I can show up for MYSELF. Not my family, not my friends, not my coworkers. Just me.
This has meant journaling, giving myself a time-out from news media, reaching out to friends to say I value you and miss you, re-evaluating goals, taking naps, purchasing a meal prep service for 3 weeks, creating positive experiences and not feeling guilty for doing so, giving myself grace. And so on.
Showing up for ourselves is so important right now. I think it’s the only way we can ultimately show up for others.
Obviously my constant in life that keeps me grounded is movement. Not being able to do that for the 7-8 weeks I was so sick really threw me for a loop. Getting back to it was scary. But doing just 5 min a day was a start.
And starting my day with movement just sets me up to feel stronger and more capable throughout the rest of the day. Whether it’s 5 minutes of walking my stairs, a quick loop of my 400m crescent, a stretch outside on my patio, or a set of my physio exercises for my neck and shoulder, I do it. No questions asked.
When we show up for ourselves in little ways, the rest eventually falls into place.
I challenge you to think of 3 ways you can work WITH your new normal and not against it. How has it changed (or not) how you continue to show up for yourself?
