This past weekend marked the 2nd time one of the top-ranked players in the world won a WGC event hoisting a coveted Gene Sazaren Cup, as well as taking home $1.8 Million in his share of the purse.
Despite a rules controversy that has recently surrounded the victor (which he was subsequently penalized for), what is most remarkable is the fact that the player in question is winning tournaments of this caliber on this kind of stage.
When recently asked how he has been able to remain so poised during this time of dispute and criticism, he has expressed that it is because of his team that has his back. “With what my wife does, what my mother-in-law does, what my managers do, and with what (my caddie)… and coaches do, all I literally have to do is show up, play golf, go back, rest, (and) hang out with the little ones… There’s not a lot of extra…” It seems as if he doesn’t overthink things, or need to think of of much else at all with this method of madness. “I go out there and feel like I have something to prove to myself… I put the ball on the ground, and I just hit my next shot.” Apparently he is onto something with his simplistic mental approach to deflecting any kind of pressure, regardless of how many penalty strokes he has been assessed by officials.
