For anyone in the process of finding or building their dream house, this one is for you. Taking place right before the 2008 recession, Janie and her husband, Wim, are in the middle of building their dream home when everything starts to fall apart. I have to be real with you guys, I really, really DID NOT like Janie’s character at all. She felt vapid and materialistic, and I couldn’t relate much to the story. Having the money to BUILD your own home is a huge privilege that most people don’t have, and that fact felt completely lost on this character for most of the book. I’m sure this could be a nice, lighthearted read for some about the pains of building, but it just wasn’t for me.
