🚨 Warning: May offend 😉
A big part of mastering life means knowing and accepting that we are two sided individuals, that we possess every opposite trait that we or society tries to label or push us to be.
E.g There is currently a whole movement out there promoting positivity, and although I agree that being positive is great, what I don’t agree with is why there is a need to suppress the other side. By universal law nothing is one sided, so the more we are polorised to one side and shut out the other, the more emotionally charged we get when life inevitably throws a curve ball our way.
There is a perception that yoga teachers are an image of only calm and positivity, but the truth is that behind closed doors they are equally the opposite, negative and anxious. Why else would they practice yoga in the first place?
We all know a friend that is loud, overly happy and the life of the party. The direct opposite though is that they are as equally quiet, sad and lifeless in their private life. The reverse goes for perceived quiet and shy people, that behind closed doors they are anything but shy and quiet!
It’s not surprising that church preachers and teachers have the highest rate of sex offences. It isn’t necessarily because they were born this way, but because they have suppressed and denied the other side of themselves so much and for so long that well... something had to give. I dare say that what they do and act in public is a lot different to what they do in private 🙊
So it’s time to acknowledge ourselves for who we are, both positive and negative, both cruel and kind, both good and bad, both clever and stupid, both confident and shy, both giving and taking, both winner and loser, both sad and happy, both optimistic and pessimistic.
When we learn to love and own who we are our lives start to change, we don't beat ourselves up for not being like someone else, we don't judge people (because haven’t we been or acted the same way?), nor do we get affected when we get labelled or judged ourselves.
The next time someone labels you a trait... smile, agree and carry along 😊
