WEEK 6: WHAT'S UNIQUE ABOUT YOUR BOOK?
Six weeks! We've been working our way through our goals, our insecurities, our strategies and our feelings as #indieauthormarketers
for six weeks now, and today's question is designed to move the focus from ourselves to our products. Our books are what we're here trying market to our audience, and we want it to stand our amidst all the noise and colour of its competition, but it can be hard to find the words for a pitch.
That's why this week's question is a starting point for that pitch: What's unique about your book?
Don't worry, I'll go first. My novel, Every Time He Dies, alternates between the perspective of a father, Detective Jon Lawrence, and his adult daughter, Daff (Daphne). What makes my novel unique is that it is told from the POV of two characters that have had a falling out and yet, they are both trying to solve the same mystery. Readers are able to see both sides of the mystery and the different ways these two characters try to solve it. The other point of difference is that MC (Daff develops psychic abilities. Most of the novel she is interacting with a male ghost who is around her age. While I could have added a romantic subplot, their affection for one another is platonic.
Now, over to you. Think very specifically about what makes your book different to comparable titles, and share your points of difference in the comments. You can make this conversation more meaningful and useful by reading the replies of others and asking clarifying questions to get people thinking about how to word their pitches. Looking forward to the ensuing rainbow of uniqueness in the comments!
