It has to begin somewhere. While doing my MBA program and fluttering in between the pages of Industrial Relations and Minimum Wages Policy I had come across tiny topic called - Vishakha Guidelines. The Vishakha Guidelines were a set of procedural guidelines for use in India in cases of sexual harassment. They were promulgated by the Indian Supreme Court in 1997 and were superseded in 2013 by the Sexual Harassment of Women at Workplace (Prevention, Prohibition and Redressal) Act, 2013. And the intensity of increasing unsafe environment at workplace, not only the rape cases but also exploitation of women to reach the career ladder or to be allowed to run along with Men in the professional track, lead the Government to compel the corporates and institution to create awareness amongst this flock. It’s a privilege to be in HR when you have the responsibility to initiate such awareness programs for the people. But the best part was, trainer emphasising on the misuse of this act as well and the time is such that, not only women but these days men as well are being victims of such harassments.
Awareness is the key for anything.
