ᴊᴀɴᴜ ꜱɪʀꜱᴀꜱᴀɴᴀ / ʜᴇᴀᴅ-ᴛᴏ-ᴋɴᴇᴇ ᴘᴏꜱᴇ is a lovely pose to practise to warm up the body or to calm down the mind. It is both a hip opener and a forward bend with subtle twist. Although the pose is called head-to-knee pose, the goal is not to touch the knee with the head by rounding the back a lot. We are instead lengthening the back and softening the torso with our breath.
The key to this pose is to stay for awhile and gently let go. You may experience some discomfort due to the tightness in the hamstrings or hips, but if you try to breathe into it and allow time for your body to soften into the pose, you will learn the sweetness of surrender.
For this pose, I personally like to keep my foot flexed and feel the stretch in the hamstring, sometimes add an extra block to lengthen the arms. But there are other options to take, using a strap, hands behind back or maybe taking bound half-lotus. There is no perfect yoga pose, and no aesthetics to follow, let's feel more and think less. ❤️
