For a split second, I felt like many people were focusing on the pandemic rather than their weight concern as the bigger picture became the focus...but now I feel weight concern has become top of mind to distract us from the pandemic and all its fear. Diet culture isn’t helping also.

You might find that this fear is making us all behave in different ways to usual. 
In a way, these behaviours are helping us to cope better with what’s going on. 
This is ok. 
Our logical brain which has been trying to non-diet is not happy about what’s going on, but the overwhelm we are all feeling is dominating us and causing old behaviours to surface. 
Try not to fight it whilst your not feeling yourself, just acknowledge what is going on for you and do the best you can.

For those of you concerned about your weight issue, just know that if you gain weight it’s not such a bad thing. Getting through this however you can is the important thing. 
If you are able to work on incorporating some positive self-care and/or nutrition strategies, this will help you feel good, but if you can’t, no judgement, try to accept where you are at.

Chatting to your non-diet dietitian can help during this time. You don’t need to struggle alone.

A huge mistake you are making is eliminating every “junk” food from your nutrition. Sure, you need to REDUCE how often and how much you eat, but elimination is not the answer. This actually makes the cravings for junk food go up, not down. Manage it by reducing, not eliminating.⠀⁣

😩 Mistake 3- Blaming Carbs for Being Overweight⠀⁣

You are the problem, not the carbs. Stop blaming food for your problems and start to take control over your nutrition. Carbs are not anymore fattening than any other food. You just tend to eat the types of foods that have a ton of calories for a very small amount of food (calorie density). Its not the carbs, it is you and your tendency to overeat.⠀⁣

😩 Mistake 4- Trying to Be Perfect Instead of Consistent⠀⁣

Perfection is an illusion. The sooner you learn that the easier life and weight loss gets. What is not an illusion is being consistent in the face of failure. I will guarantee you will fail along the way. Knowing that should make you feel good, because it is inevitable and you can prepare for it now. Expect to get knocked down, get up, keep moving forward.⠀⁣

😩 Mistake 5- Doing More Cardio Than Weight Lifting⠀⁣
⁣
Weight lifting builds muscle, cardio does not. Muscle burns calories when you sleep, cardio burns calories only when you do it. I'm no investment expert, but putting the work in to weight lifiting sounds like a better investment.⁣

😩 Mistake 6- Rushing Your Fat Loss Progress⠀⁣
⁣
You HATE when things in life are not in your immediate control. If you don’t let go of that, you will never succeed with fat loss. You cannot sustainably control the rate that you lose fat, all you can control is the calorie deficit you create and the consistency you build over time. The rate is the rate, and you need to be cool with it taking 6-24 months of time to make that happen.⁣

You’re thinking, “I’ve made a decision to commit to my health and eat foods that make ME feel great. Pasta is so delicious and there is absolutely nothin’ wrong with noodles and sauce, but I know I would FEEL better if there were some veggies tucked in there.”

Ya’ll, this is where being PREPARED with a NUTRITIOUS option comes in handy! Having a bag of frozen veggies in the house that can easily be heated and ADDED to this meal is a way to make healthy eating happen for YOU!

I’ve DEFINITELY found myself in this situation and seen this countless times with clients. I want you to eat the foods that help you THRIVE, so stock up that freezer of veggies and order yourself the side of steamed veggies when out at a restaurant. There’s nothing wrong with what “they” are eating, but if you don’t speak up for yourself, nobody will!

The principle of how your body loses, gains, & maintains weight is actually pretty simple…

❇️ Weight Loss: Your body burns more calories than you intake, creating a calorie deficit.

⭕️ Weight Maintenance: Your body burns (roughly) the same amount of calories that you intake, creating a calorie balance.
⠀
⚠️ Weight Gain: Your body burns less calories than you intake, creating a calorie surplus.
⠀
In a nutshell, that’s the basic science of how energy balance works!

But on a different note…👇

Just because energy balance is fairly straightforward…doesn’t necessarily make losing weight easy.

Weight loss is HARD.

Imagine if someone gave you directions to get from NYC to LA…you've got the roadmap of how to get there…

However, just because you know the directions, doesn’t mean that physically arriving to your destination will be easy.
⠀
The same concept applies to energy balance…
⠀
While it’s true that a calorie deficit is the key to losing weight, creating that deficit & sticking to it consistently is the hard part.
⠀
All too often, we are bombarded with the overly-simplified advice of “just create a calorie deficit & you’ll lose weight, it’s easy!”

PSA: If this weight loss thing was as simple as only knowing your intake to maintain a calorie deficit, wouldn’t everyone be in fantastic shape & be crushing their fat loss goals?

What I’m trying to get at here…

It’s definitely important to understand energy balance & how many calories you need to take in to propel you towards your goals.

It’s also important to not oversimplify the process of reaching your goals, which can lead to you being unnecessarily hard on yourself & others.

Had myself a day today, without realizing it 🙌🏼 aside from being hella productive in, out, and around the house, I took so much time to just be.

I unplugged, felt the sunshine on my warm skin and grass between my toes. I let the breeze flow through my hair and the bees buzz around me. I spent so much time in the present and it was much deserved.

Then, I finally decided to celebrate with a #sweat sesh, which is part of what you’re seeing above but mostly in my stories 🤣🏃🏽‍♀️
Had myself a day today, without realizing it 🙌🏼 aside from being hella productive in, out, and around the house, I took so much time to just be. Quarantine has been a crazy time for all of us but instead of letting it bog us down, let’s come together and implement healthier habits into our lives! First up... WATER💦! I’ll drink a bottle on my story each day this week at about 12pm PST. THEN each Monday I’ll add in a new habit to the mix & do that on my story for ya’ll each day too! 💪I’m not saying don’t take care of yourself.. of course, feeding our bodies well and exercising feels amazing. What I’m calling out is the INTENTION behind it all.

🤔It’s one thing to keep up with a workout and food regimen/routine simply because it helps you function and feel you’re best. It’s another to dive in with the hopes of achieving this elusive “summer body” that diet culture pushes on us this time of year.

☝🏼If you’re currently thinking about changing your diet or workout regimen JUST to get your body “summer ready” I understand where the pressure comes from. I understand that desire. If that’s you right now, show yourself compassion, dig deep and ask yourself WHY it’s so important to you.

✌🏼Consider that maybe that energy and time could go elsewhere and be contributed to something more meaningful in your life, that might also last longer than the summer months!

This easy Pineapple Chicken Recipe is full of flavor and chunks of tender chicken, tangy pineapple, and sweet red bell pepper. You can use chicken breasts, chicken tenderloins, or boneless chicken thighs. Pork would also be a great option as well. In addition, you can use fresh, frozen, or canned pineapple. I remember feeling lost and not knowing where to start my journey. I scoured sites and hashtags to learn how to be healthy, because I was terrified of investing in a coach in case it didn’t work, or I would give up, again.

In case you were wondering- it’s totally worth the investment, and my door is always open to you when you’re ready. & if you’re not here are my 5 healthy living tips: ✖️PORTION your carbohydrates! This means breads, rice, pasta, potatoes, corn, beans, & legumes! These are so easy to overestimate and pack on tons of calories. ✖️Move your body everyday! Exercise is so good for your body, we were made to move! Clean your house, have a dance party, go for a walk, try some yoga, try home workouts (I can hook you up with these if you need some). ✖️Wash or sanitize your hands regularly! Let’s be real, this should be normal, but apparently people are just now realizing this? I keep hand sanitizer in my car and use it after going to the store, getting gas etc. When at home - wash your hands after playing with your pets, cleaning, before cooking or eating. Wipe down door handles and light switches regularly (1x/week at minimum). ✖️Drink water first thing in the morning. I used to reach for my coffee and/or preworkout as soon as I woke up, and still struggle to get in enough water. Chug some water while your coffee is brewing, before and after each meal. I always keep a shaker cup as a water bottle in my car at all times! ✖️Eat yo veggies! I don’t care how you have to get it in, just do it. I attempt to have veggies at every single meal! Just because you are not ‘dieting’ does not mean you can skip essential micronutrients your body needs. When I know I’m having a treat/cheat meal I be sure to add extra greens to my other meals or have a green smoothie/juice. 3-4 servings/day minimum is ideal - it’s definitely not hard I promise!

A wise person reminded me today of the fact that situations are neither positive nor negative, they are what you make of them.

Things happen, but they don’t happen TO YOU, it’s your reaction to them that make them what they are. Your perception of them is inevitably different to mine.

The moment you start listening to your mind and realising how quickly you can flip a reaction to a situation around and how different you can feel about it, is a feeling of pure empowerment.

This has taken me YEARS to grasp and so much hard work. I still don’t always get it “right” first time, but even when I don’t I am aware of it and I can change it a lot quicker than I used to.

Test it for yourself. Think of a situation that usually angers you and ask yourself why, think about what you feel in it. Can you react differently? How would you like to react? Now, remember that feeling for next time it happens.

1. If you had a routine, try to stick with that or get back into that routine.
2. Win your mornings, set your alarm for the same time every day.
3. Mix your pre workout + Move your body at least 30 minutes a day.
4. Practice daily gratitude and personal development to get your mindset right.
5.Shower and “get ready” for the day.
6. Remind yourself daily WHY you need this routine.
7. Have support that will encourage you to stick with it!

It doesn’t have to be complicated but maybe you need to write it out so you see it every day and you have a plan. Implement this daily for at least 21 days because then it becomes a habit, it becomes a part of you.
