Thanks to technology and new regulations, it is nice to see that common sense has prevailed and doctors are being encouraged to consult their patients via telehealth. 
I'm pleased that I have been able to adapt my service during these difficult times to offer telehealth appointments. 
Hopefully in the future this will stimulate further debate about the possibility of extending this method of consulting patients well beyond Covid-19.

April is going to be the darkest month if everything I am hearing is true.  It will only take a couple of weeks and your body will respond to real food.  Your body wants to keep you healthy, but you have got to give it the right stuff for it to be able to do its job.  Don't disappoint it and don't disappoint you.

Meditation. We all know we should be doing it. We all know that it's good for anxiety and calming the nervous system. There are countless apps, books, classes to help us meditate. And I agree it is an essential tool in our wellness box, as it is proven to be even more restful/restorative than sleep, when done properly. And there is no time like the present to get started with a practice such as this. I think we all could use a little anxiety relief presently. However, it's tricky business for many.  If you find meditation challenging, I'm here to help you. Did you know that your autonomic nervous system will still calm even if you just do mindful breath work...? ...You can slow your heart rate and even potentially reduce your stress level with simple, conscious breath work. Is it the same as meditation? No. Is it more manageable for many who feel overwhelmed by meditation, while still providing measurable and profound results?  You betcha!  As a wise trainer I know says, "Let's not make perfect the enemy of good". That being said, I recruit you to invite a little breath work into your life this week, even if you can't find the time to meditate. Here's a simple breath exercise to possibly get you started on the road to calm and soon enough deeper breathing. It's called "4-7-8"
1. Sit in a comfortable position. (I like to do this seated on the floor leaning against a wall, or honestly right before I fall asleep). 2. Inhale slowly for a count of 4
3. Try to hold your breath at the top of your inhalation for a count of 7 
4. Exhale slowly for a count of 8
5. Repeat the sequence (Inhale 4. Hold 7. Exhale 8) 4 times. 
Rest.

There are 77,000 man made chemicals in the environment and many of these are in women's makeup. 
Endocrine disruptors are toxic chemicals in a lot of cosmetics that mimic or partly mimic naturally occurring hormones in the body like estrogen, potentially producing overstimulation, which is what we don't want. This can lead to birth defects, infertility, and some types cancers incl breast cancer, hormonal imbalances leading to fibroids, cysts, endometriosis, pcos. 
Scary but better to be informed. .
According to EWG.org here are some of the most harmful ingredients to watch out for; some of these are now banned in some countries.
🌹Formaldehyde; used as a hair straightener, nail hardener.
🌹 Phthalates; affects reproductive system both male and female, found in perfumes, nail polish, eyelash adhesive and fragrances.
🌹Parabens; mimics estrogen and harm reproductive system men and women. 🌹Toluene; harms fetus and toxic to brain and nervous system. Used in nail polish, hair dye.
🌹Triclosan; affects thyroid and reproductive, found int deodorants, mouthwash, hand sanitizer hand cream toothpaste.
🌹Carbon black; in eyeliner, mascara and lipstick
🌹PFAS, in sunscreen, foundation, concealer, shaving cream hairspray.
🌹Lead affect brain development in children; in lipstick, eye shadow, blush, shampoos and lotions
🌹Asbestos; in talc.

How to avoid these; look for naturally derived certified organic products where possible, this goes for cleaning products too.

Just me in my element. For me, the gym space has always been my happy spot. For some people it’s church, yoga, walking in nature, going for drives.. whatever it may be for you, for me, it has always been the gym. A place where I can zone out, a place I can challenge myself and push myself, a place where I can try new things and grow my mind, but also a place where I can help OTHERS become the best THEM.

For those that don’t know, I got into “working out” in 2011. I played sports my whole life and stopped when I went to university. I really wanted to go on a hockey scholarship but I decided to focus on academics. Somehow my time in university still brought me back to my roots and I stayed heavily involved with national athletics and Varsity stuff!

I started to love the gym space more when I experienced hardship in life from 2012-2014. Movement to me was a way for me to get to know myself. Who I truly was (and am). Anytime I needed to see my drive, persistence, faith, dedication, focus.. I would put myself through a workout because it brought all my character out.

I hope that many of you find a kind of movement that allows you to feel unstoppable yet can challenge you to new heights. This is why I created the 6-week challenge after I had Malaya. I wanted to walk with you on a new way of feeling YOUR best while teaching you to make realistic goals, track progress properly and still manage to push yourself out of your comfort zone.

As we enter our final week of the Challenge, I get ready for our next one starting April 19th. Please join me on another amazing 6-weeks! Enrollment opens up tomorrow.

FLANK STEAK & HONEY BRUSSEL SPROUTS.

I’ve had red meat the last 2 nights (Friday night are always burger nights, obvi) but when we whipped out a flank steak I was not opposed. Each day that passes is feeling more and more like summer.. my current sunburn can attest to this😃. So grilling season is in full swing! We are big red meat eaters over here.  Full of iron & B12, two nutrients many people especially for women ages 14-menopause yrs. Iron is so important for a couple reasons, iron and B12 are essential for maintaining energy levels, producing red blood cells, & maintaining healthy cell function. If you’re not a meat eater, I’m sure you’ve heard you should probablyyyyyy supplement with B12 and iron. But why? The form of iron in animal products is more readily available and absorbed by our body. Especially in women, it’s important we keep those iron stores and levels adequate to prevent fatigue and continue our red blood cell production! Mustering the will to live! 😫

Sounds extreme but frankly, this is where it's at.
The triggers for me with this are extreme, to say the least. My mind and my body 🤢🤮 are both rejecting this drink because I fell into some really dark places on the last 14-day journey with the elemental diet. We are simply having a hard time dealing with being back in this position again.

I've heard time and time again that healing is far from linear and it's so bloody true. There is no set end date for the goal and outcome to be reached, and getting there is ballbusting hard. It's often a very, very slippery slope to navigate.

But I've also discovered how resilient I can be, how strong my body actually is, and how it is continuing to show up for me to let me see, and feel the things that are yet to be healed.

I've cried a lot over the past 24 hours. I'll have more tears over the next 6 days for sure, but I'm one hell of a stubborn old bitch and my body and I have come this far already. It's her time to ask for a little bit more from me right now. She's asked me to show up again, to continue to drink this liquid and to just....keep....going! 💚

Life has been WEIRD recently…anyone!? From social distancing, to hazmat suits, overburdened hospitals, economic crises, strange behaviour in public places and the inner battles people have been fighting in their own minds it’s been REAL. It’s oddly felt surreal though..like I’ve been in a weird yet epic movie..A lot of us wanted more time to ourselves, remote work, more time for health routines and organizing and life admin…and we got it 👌🏼 And along with that we got…time to sit with OURSELVES, observe our internal reality and see what comes up..turns out for many our minds are not quite the safe place we were able to ignore previously…and now we have no choice but to turn INWARDS

We’re fighting a real war out there 💪🏻😷 and it’s outside us and IN us. If there’s anything to be gained amidst this crisis I’d name it as a shift in PERSPECTIVE. It was right after I graduated college that I knew something was wrong. I was getting horrible migraine headaches. I would sleep for 12 hours and still be exhausted. I dealt with severe anxiety for the first time in my life, and my brain constantly felt heavy and clouded- making simple tasks overwhelming. I blamed all these symptoms on post-grad blues, but month by month it got continually worse, until I finally was so ill I had to quit my job and move back home.

After working with a Functional Medicine Neurologist (who ran every test imaginable), we discovered I have Lyme disease, multiple Lyme co-infections, Toxic Mold Syndrome and Lyme-induced Autoimmune Encephalitis (severe brain inflammation).

It was SUCH a relief to finally (after years and years of symptoms, dismissive doctors and medications) start addressing the root cause. It was such a relief to know I wasn’t going crazy.

In a lot of ways Lyme and AE are invisible illnesses. Which makes them feel even more unbearable. If I could give advice to someone with a chronic, undiagnosed illness it would be, “keep searching.” Even if it takes 20 doctors, 100 tests and everyone thinking you’re crazy. Trust yourself; trust your body. The symptoms aren’t in your head. They’re your body’s way of alerting you that something is wrong. Bringing awareness to Lyme (and so many other lesser-known illnesses) is SO very important, and I really appreciate the work that A.W.A.R.E Causes is doing in helping us feel seen and supported. First, laying the foundation of an adequate and balanced diet ensures optimal nutrient intake so you feel GOOD (as much as possible during this time!). Consider food groups, portion sizes, and meal timing. Then by incorporating mindful eating, you can strengthen your mind’s relationship with your body to better judge if you want a food, how much to eat, and when to eat it. It’s like your stomach is the lie detector for your brain 🧠

I eat dark chocolate just about every day. I love it, it makes me happy, and I feel 100% in control while eating it. But before grabbing that post-meal chocolate square, I think: Do I actually want this? What does my stomach physically feel like right now? How will I minimize distractions if I eat it? Sometimes yep, chocolate it is. But other times, it’s a cookie or a cup of tea - or something not related to food, like getting to bed an hour earlier.

Making the decision to practice letting go of what’s no longer supporting our health and wellbeing is a powerful step toward healing.  We may be called to let go of anything - a way of thinking, an emotion, a job, a behavior, or the refusal to seek help or invest in a particular treatment.

Letting go isn’t always easy because often on the other side is a whole bunch of uncertainty.  However, when we can release our attachment to the things that deep down we know are getting in the way of healing pain, often we find the liberation that comes along with this process is far more life-fueling than the fear of the unknown.

In time, as we continue to step away from what’s no longer in alignment with our true Self, we find a deeper sense of healing and growth in the mind and the body and ultimately an increase in connection to our spirit ✨.
