A moody Devdas recreation with @sonamnaidu
In the midst of heavy chilling during Diwali we put together this concept out of the blue, and let me tell you….a little spontaneity went a long way!
After getting ready in the morning, we planned on getting glam just for fun, but knowing us….naturally it turned into a full on photo op.
The best art always comes when you allow yourself ample time to challenge yourself and experiment. Given the bare minimum resources we pushed ourselves to use only what we had in the house to create this vintage Bollywood moment. We rearranged the living room decor into a little corner, draped old dupattas, lit all the Diwali tea lights in the house, and experimented with lighting & props to create interesting effects. (My favorite part was taking Sonam’s mom’s peacock feathers and styrofoam glitter balls from the dollar store to create our own lens flares and custom filters)
One thing that often goes unsaid amongst our generation: no matter how big or small of a task, you have to go into every project with the mindset of soaking in knowledge like a sponge. Sonam and I always talk about the fact that our learning never stops- the more you’re willing to teach yourself the stronger your artistic eye will become and the more diverse you become as a creator.
Personally, as someone who does their own photography, I’m always looking for ways to get better, so whenever I get to shoot without pressure or time constraints and I make the extra effort to elevate my compositions, that’s when my photos turn out best.
were directing the shots and we kept bouncing back and forth with ideas on props to use and different unique angles which made SUCH a difference! When you’re able to enjoy the process, soak in good creative energy, and create something amazing out of nothing it’s the best way to grow.
You don’t always have to be doing the most to benefit from a situation, so don’t be afraid creating on the fly & living in the moment!
