For me dancing starts with a decision. The decision to give yourself over totally to the music and the artform you are practicing.
Here, I'm preparing for rehearsal. Working at the barre helps me balance while I drill isolations in place. It also helps me stretch and focus on protecting the muscles that help do everything from hold my arms where I want them to the balls of my feet.
There's nothing like a good stretch to get the body warmed up and ready to go...dance that it.
