We had been married less than a year when Gabriel told me....
“I feel a calling. Something I have to pursue. I feel a deep desire to protect people. I want to enlist in the military.”
I wasn’t exactly happy. We were just beginning our marriage journey, and this was a lot of change. And on top of that, he would be leaving, with little communication, for eight painful months. 😭
Even when it’s hard, we have always supported each other. We have never wanted to stop the other from their dreams. So, I said okay.
Fast forward six years, and his enlistment is up in April, and a huge chapter in our lives is finally closing!!!
But, that desire to protect people, to help our community, to serve others, has never left him. He is such a hard working and big hearted person, and it’s been on his heart a lot that he is meant to do more.
He has worked in some form of maintenance for most of our marriage, apartment, airport, furniture. Always providing for us, always our rock, but never truly passionate about his work.
SO, I’m here to tell you all, this man has finally taken a huge step in his career journey. Today is his first day as a Sheriff’s Detention Deputy for our county!!!! 🎉🎉🎉
Eventually, he wants to be a patrol officer, but this is the first, and the BIGGEST step in the right direction he’s ever made! I am SO incredibly proud of him and inspired by his resilience.
The hiring process for this job was extensive, and we’ve been going through it since November!!! To finally be starting, seems surreal.
It’s a lot of change. Shift hours, hard work, potential dangerous situations. Everything is new, and important, and scary, but it’s also exciting and comforting.
So there it is! We are now a law enforcement family. I’m excited, I’m nervous, and I’m trying to take it all in stride and just be thankful for this incredible blessing God has provided my spouse.
I’m so proud of him. ♥️
Prayers of course are always welcome. This is a HUGE adjustment for our family, and I know we still have a lot of learning and change ahead of us. But this feels right. And seeing how proud and excited my husband is, makes it all worth it. ♥️
