Here’s something I want to remind you: Fear is the biggest enemy. The opposite of love is not hate. It’s fear.
Fear acts as blinders, it doesn’t allow us to tap into solutions, creativity and collaboration. When we are afraid we trigger our fight/ flight response. Tunnel vision. No options, the prefrontal cortex is inactive. No clear thinking. We get paralyzed. When we’re paralyzed, we can be easily controlled and manipulated. Why? Because all we focus is on survival. There’s confusion and powerlessness. When you’re fearful you give your power away. You give up your personal authority over your own mind.
I spent a lot of time in Thailand with Buddhist monks and shamanic Thai healers. I’ve asked them how they deal with fear. The answer was- “Ignore it. Go about your life without fear, be careful of your surroundings.” If we buy into fear, they believe, a bad spirit could enter. This is a metaphor for allowing forces that aren’t positive to control our decisions and our life. Just like operating out of fear is not allowing us to reason, collect and synthesize data, create connections and discern.
In the western world we know that fear shuts off the prefrontal cortex and the amygdala gets activated. Stress hormones flood into the blood. We can’t problem solve, be creative and see the bigger picture.
To take it even further, this is how you rewire the subconscious. Through trauma. Trauma is a shock to the system that creates an opening inside of our subconscious and could rewrites our brain. This is fear conditioning.
We have been experiencing a lot of traumatic events this year. Even if you don’t realize it, what we’re going through in the world is traumatic. Our world changed overnight. The fear that the media is constantly feeding us, the political agenda to divide people etc. It’s all a mechanism of control and the best way to do that is put people in a perpetual state of fear, confusion and chaos. Not knowing which side to take, fighting against each other, rage on twitter, looting. All while other agendas are taking place.
All we need is to center, protect and USE our own mind. (Continued in comments)
