For some of us, the pursuit of adventures is instinctive. Not so much for our parents, at least, not my parents. I always thought that because they had the financial means, they could shift their focus beyond fulfilling basic needs. However, their sense of responsibility for their aging parents and only daughter enveloped their lives, leaving no time or energy for much else.
When my dad visited me in LA for the first time, he was overjoyed by the taste of an average cup of boba tea. He was thrilled by every little food adventure we went on. Something that was so easy and ordinary for me, was profoundly exciting for him.
