The ego says, “Maybe at some point in the future I can be at peace. If this, that or the other happens, or I obtain this or become that.” Or it says, “I can never be at peace because of something that happened in the past.” Listen to people’s stories and they could all be entitled “Why I Cannot Be At Peace Now” - Eckhart Tolle
We are naturally in a state of peace-a state of oneness with everything that is still and literally breathtaking...it nearly takes your breath away.
Then in comes the mind with all it’s incessant chatter about how things are, how they should be, how this person is wrong (which deeper down, they likely didn’t admire or adore us at some point which wounded the ego so it now tells us what’s wrong about them to make them less which makes us feel better).
Pay attention to it-listen to the stories it tells you-that talking to yourself that you’ve thought is you...it’s not. That’s a bunch of thoughts which are most certainly not you-you are far more than some thoughts.
Those thoughts are who you think you are, but they have you tricked.
You are everything-literally. An infinite collection of moving particles that is not separate from all the other things that are also made of infinite particles...the thoughts are even made of them, so while arguably, they are a part of you, they are only a very limited and often negative part.
When you sit back and watch your ego tell you all the ways life is, but recognize it’s only thoughts and life is far more than that, you transcend it.
It’s not easy at first because the thoughts keep coming and even try to talk you out of this nonsense. Or they tell you, “this doesn’t make sense and it’s weird or hippy bullshit. I’m hungry, my back hurts, ugh that’s annoying, I have so much to do, we’re going to be late, how could she, he’s so____.”
Just keep watching and smile lovingly at it-your brain trying to tell you how things are.
Be still, notice the things you haven’t before-the sounds, the visuals, the way things appear without the narrator.
And you will experience the relief, the calm, the peace that is right there always-that is how you truly are, but have only been talked out of by
