What’re your daily habits? .
Mine are: .
A) fitness-related
✅at least 45 min walk
✅ workout with weights or morning cardio

B) self-development
✅read at least 15 pages a book (usually in the morning)
✅breathing exercises in the morning
✅warm bath (this is the time when I listen some podcasts or make a visualisations)

C) food-related
✅drinking a glass of celery juice or chicken bone broth

So a drinking a chicken broth is a new habit. I heard a lot about the benefits of it (@halleberry says that’s it’s a secret of her beauty 🤩). I was always too lazy to make it on my own, but nowadays you can buy it in organic shops! Like @abelandcole or @betterfoodco .
I’ve already noticed a difference in the appearance of my skin and my other half said that his digestion is much better since we started drink it! .

This year has been fun for to me figure out different workouts that are challenging, satisfying AND fun.. I’ve found that kickboxing has been the best. For those of you trying to lose weight at a relatively fast pace, I would suggest taking this on as a workout 2-3x a week. You’ll get your heart rate up FAST and burn a ton of calories.

A year ago today I was a bag of nerves - driving down to Yeovil from Bristol for my first class. I was so nervous people wouldn’t turn up or wouldn’t like me or the class.

For those of you who know me well, I’m not a trained performer. As a child I had been in dance shows but I was always too nervous to really give it my all so it was quite daunting to now stand in front of people and instruct. •
•
36 of you turned up to my first class. It’s an evening I’m never going to forget. Once the music started, the confidence came and watching you all following the moves I was showing you, was an incredible feeling. I continued the week with 2 classes in Bristol and enjoyed every second. From there the classes have grown beyond what I could have ever imagined! •

This year has been a dream. It has had its ups and downs and has taught me a lot about this industry, but the positives have far outweighed the negatives and I’m having the time of my life doing what I love. •

If you have danced with me, thank you. If you have recommended my class, thank you. If you turn up week in and week out and give me your all, thank you. If you have given me any level of support on social media, thank you. It means so much to me.

I did a non-jumping round half way through (round 3) because I needed it! Give it a go and I'm sure you'll see what I mean.

30 second on 30 seconds rest: ✔ Jump lunges with a pulse ✔ In out squat jumps
✔ Skaters
✔ lunge hops ✔ lunge hops

If the last exercise, lunge knee up, isn't working for you, do a reverse lunge into a knee up hop, then change legs after 30 seconds. 
The non jumping round consisted of:
✔ Reverse lunges
✔ Squats ✔ Side lunge from side to side
✔ Curtsey lunges - one side
✔ Curtsey lunges - one side

Employee of the month for May, goes to... Ned!

There was slight competition from Dot this month after she turned up to 3 sessions, however she became more of an annoyance than a welcome worker!

Ned has shown great time keeping with his morning routine, he has also taken to curling up in my lap to sleep during sessions which shows how comfortable he is now in his role! All round, he’s a top guy!

Thought I'd cover something I know a lot of us use, Fitness Trackers

They have their good points and also their bad points, some of which I've mentioned here

The good thing is a fitness tracker will most likely get you active, keep you accountable and generally make you more mindful of your activeness throughout the day

However they do have their down sides, the calories burned can be inaccurate, it doesn't really work for resistance training as it relies more on heart rate

Whether you get one or don't it's up to you but it's always best to be aware of everything before you make a purchase

If you do have one already, some of these may be an eye opener to you and may make you realise this could be the reason you’re not seeing the progress you’d want

Having said that, as long as you get or have the Apple Watch then you’re already off to a good start 😉

Play your favourite music and just have a fun with it! 
I love it and for me it’s therapeutic! Sometimes I just play the music and for 30min I just jump side to side and sing... but it ALWAYS boosts my mood and energy 🔥
Follow the plan and try to do at least 3 times a week 30 min morning cardio session 😊 . I’m using an aerobic step for that but you can do it without! . I’m really getting the most of my barbell training before I need to give up my bar Artemisia for going home to send two weeks in quarantine. On the downside, I do feel tired after several days of no-rest barbell training, so I stuck to light practice on #snatchbalance . I will have to try a bit harder not to ride the squat in, but I’m pretty happy with the audible landing 😊

Lots of people hate jumping....I love it, reminds me of being a kid which basically I act like most the time anyway.
I'm going to upload a plyo based workout tomorrow..... but in the mean time what the hell is plyometrics?

If you want to improve speed or become more explosive add some plyometrics into your weekly training regime. It's a great training method for power.....what is it? basically quick explosive movements.
It's often used by athletes to help improve strength, power and speed, but that doesnt mean we can't do it (I know I'm not an athlete, can you believe it🤷‍♀️) Be aware it can be tough on joints, especially knees, so work on a steady strength programme and then add in some plyometric exercises. Please build a proper foundation before you start jumping all over the place! 
So why exactly would I want to jump around? Seems like a lot of hard work...... well.......It strengthens fast twitch fibers (huh? Meaning the contraction of the muscle will be quicker which means more power)
It helps strengthen tendons (which can help reduce risk of injuries -yay to that) pick a soft landing! 
Burns calories - that's always nice.
Helps Improve balance and agility. Tomorrow you will see how good my balance ISN'T, so maybe I should jump more🙈

If you have arthritis or bone/joint problems, plyo isnt a great idea, do something lower impact. Or if your pregnant, again stick to low impact. .

By choosing better food choices, foods with a high nutritional value and foods high in vitamins and minerals, you are supplying the body with the fuel it needs to function properly. If you are feeling lethargic, exhaused all the time and you have a foggy head, you are probably eating a diet too high in processed foods, sugar and caffeine.

2. YOUR SLEEP IS BETTER 💤

With the correct nutritional plan, your brain chemicals that help you sleep will improve. Fresh whole foods, more protein, healthy fats and fiber will help stabilse your blood sugar and hormones needed for sleep.

3. YOU'RE IN A BETTER MOOD AND YOU ARE HAPPIER 😁

Cutting out sugar and heavily processed foods may make you feel unhappy short term, but long term your mood will improve. The types of food we eat have a massive impact on how we feel due to the link with our blood sugar regulation and our neurotransmitters.

Changes in your before and after pictures are great ways to tell whether your body shape is changing. Also your measurements are smaller (for fat loss), or bigger (muscle gain) except waist. I teach mindful hiit a class that encourages listening to our bodies whilst still working hard!! It's in a fab studio called @wearebravemove......that class reminds me everyday we need to listen to our bodies and workout in a way that feels good! 
This is an ideal full body workout for someone who likes hiit training but maybe cant jump due to knee issues or maybe because you dont like jumping 🤷‍♀️ each to their own. 
Do each exercise 45 seconds and have a 15 second rest. Repeat for 3 rounds. ✔ Low squat reach ✔ Round the world lunge

Smiles and sunshine ☀️ super tired today -Sinuses have been awful bad the last few weeks😳

Im going to talk about something I’ve lived with my whole life. I suffer from chronic sinusitis- it’s not fun
.
It essentially means my nose is super duper sensitive to everything and gets infected at the sign of any tiny sniffle someone else may have
.
It is NOT a cold, it’s NOTHING like a cold
.
I have it permanently
.
When it’s bad, It feels like your head is in the clouds, feel very groggy, eyes swell up and pressure builds in your head, constant headache, permanent blocked nose, sleeping is very difficult, feels like you’ve constantly got concrete blocks on your head, completely fatigued, ears ring day and night, bending over your head throbs so painfully you feel dizzy and nose starts to leak uncontrollably, nose makes noises like a champagne bottle popping as pressure releases, when the infection starts to clear & you blow your nose it feels like a slug comes out and the release feels amazing (for a short period of time). The bad phase can last weeks &clears eventually, but sometimes I need antibiotics. People don’t realise how debilitating it is
.
I’ve got to be extra careful ALL the time to try not to catch bugs (even when we aren’t in a lockdown!) I am OCD about people being sick in work or if someone sneezes I instantly want to get away from them. I never touch communal things, I open doors with my feet, I carry sanitizer everywhere, I generally refuse to shake peoples hands
.
Someone else’s minor illness- could be a few weeks of agony for me
.
People don’t take it seriously. I’ve had many awkward conversation about how I don’t want to sit next to someone in work if they’ve had a cold. People think I’m mad!

lockdown hasn’t changed my approach to keeping healthy, it’s had a positive effect as it’s made other people more aware of keeping their distance & keeping things clean

For me, the normally awkward greeting of shaking someone’s hand isn’t awkward any more & I’m not the only weird one that won’t touch door handles 🤩😝

Bret is such a hero, as a scientist, as a trainer and as an teacher. While in quarantine I have been “becoming acquainted with” (read: failing to follow) a sample programme from Bret’s book that’s aimed at drilling in correct form in the main movement patterns as a solid foundation for heavier lifts later on. It’s 4 full body days per week (the same 2 days done twice) with 7 exercises each, plus room for you to programme things like a glute burnout or an ab finisher at the end of the session. The exercises are, in order:⁣

A horizontal hip hinge move (hip thrust variation) ⁣
An upper push move (push-ups or press)⁣
a knee hinge move (squat variation)⁣
An upper pull move (row or chin-up)⁣
A vertical hip hinge move (RDL variation)⁣
A transverse hip hinge move (some hip abduction)⁣
A plank variation ⁣

Build your core the right way 👌

The primary role of your core is to stabilise. But it’s not quite that simple. Long static holds such as the plank and over exaggerated flex/extend movements such as crunches have long been the ‘vogue' of abdominal training in the mainstream 🤨 unfortunately, while these movements may give you ‘rock hard abs’ they will do little else for your overall health and strength 🤷‍♂️

Now I will start by saying this, DON’T DO CRUNCHES. Flexion and extension of the spine in this manner is about as useful for your health and gym performance as a hot shower in the desert 🏜 I won’t get into why, but just trust me on this okay? .
Most movements in the gym and real world, require bracing and stability of the trunk while the body is dynamic 🤸‍♀️ for example, in running, the hands and feet move but the core needs to stay braced to stop energy wastage 🏃‍♂️ while in squatting, the knees and hips flex and extend while the core is tasked with maintaining integrity to allow transfer of force from the legs to the bar! 🏋️‍♀️

Therefore, while isometric bracing work (planks) are great for training stability, they need to be incorporated ALONGSIDE dynamic (NOT crunches) core work, where the trunk is braced while the body is dynamic. Most movements in the gym and real world, require bracing and stability of the trunk while the body is dynamic 🤸‍♀️ for example, in running, the hands and feet move but the core needs to stay braced to stop energy wastage 🏃‍♂️ while in squatting, the knees and hips flex and extend while the core is tasked with maintaining integrity to allow transfer of force from the legs to the bar! 🏋️‍♀️ . Therefore, while isometric bracing work (planks) are great for training stability, they need to be incorporated ALONGSIDE dynamic (NOT crunches) core work, where the trunk is braced while the body is dynamic.
