And this is where things got interesting .. !
Last month after mommy got me home, my mommy wrote this "Notice anything missing ? Aside from a tail, you can see that Daisy has
No butthole !
Last night I discovered that Daisy doesn't have an anus .
( if puppy poop talk makes you squeamish, read no further )
She has rectovaginal fistula with anal Artesia.
Basically , in addition to never developing a tail, and her hips/ hind legs not developing properly , she was born without rectum. This tiny dimple is where her rectum was supposed to be, but it's imperforate.
The bowels are routed to her vulva , so she goes poo and pee through her vulva.
The pink spots on each side are where her anal glands are. They are partially exposed . They weep fluid and have to be gently cleaned throughout the day.
We already knew that she was going to have special needs due to her back legs , but this was quite unexpected . I discovered this when bathing her and clipping the hair on her rump ( for cleanliness )
As startling as it is, I am so grateful that she's ours. Grateful that this was missed , until she was mine.
The fella we adopted her from disclosed her hip and leg condition , unaware that this coexisted. Even the vet he took her to , missed it . I spoke with him today and he told me that she would have been EUTHANIZED if this was previously discovered .
But the stars alligned, and she is still on this planet , in my arms.
I do NOT regret taking her in , whatsoever.
I feel like the universe chose her for me.
Now the tricky stuff : she will need surgery.
Pet insurance will NOT cover preexisting conditions .
Trying to figure it all out.
I knew I signing up for some degree of special care ( PT, orthotics ? Special waddle slings ? ) but this is more than I anticipated.
I do know , that I won't give up on my baby girl ... ❤
In the meantime, soft foods only, puppy diapers, daily baths ,in- home PT , LOTS OF cuddles, and, patience ❤ "
