Places I'd rather be ^^^ Instead I'm spending the day working on my capstone project and student teaching work sample 🤷♀️ While I'm exhausted, the light at the end of the tunnel is getting closer and closer!
A small stretch of original 🚂 railroad 🚂 grade remains unaltered due to expensive rock work required to widen it for 🚙 auto 🚙 travel. #boreaspass

The railroad reached the top of Boreas Pass in 1881. This was a bustling location at the time with about 150 residents that primarily serviced the railroad. #boreaspass

In 1880 the narrow gauge 🚂 Denver South Park and Pacific 🚂 built the Highline Route over Boreas Pass to serve the lucrative Leadville market. This water tank held 9305 gallons of 💦 water 💦 and serviced the steam engines. #boreaspass
Super rad hut trip full of laughter, Crista falling (hence the laughter), chasing the sunset with Allen, letting Joy shower us with Skratch product, puzzles and Scrabble, bad food choices, a terrifying tea bag, witnessing Rachel snowshoe 6.5 miles in two hours, and one sleepless night! I would do that again! .
6.5 miles skinning up a railroad grade that was once home to a train used to unite Leadville and Breckenridge, led us to our temporary home at the Section House at Boreas Pass. At ~11,500 feet this two story wood structure served as the past residence for the railroad manager and his family and a stopping location for those trains coming over the pass. Minus a few small additions (some solar powered lighting and an additional composting toilet, I believe), the house has remained much the same as it was 100 years ago.
The information on the wall quoted one of the children saying the nights were always windy; they were right. With temperatures in the single digits and winds above 50 mph, it made for an invigorating adventure to ring in the new year and a wonderful look at a past life. No better way to celebrate a new decade than with foot deep powder, sweet backcountry turns, glances/living history, and fantastic times with friends!

In 2019, I married my best friend (hi @tyhorton 😍) and then moved across the country (i love you Colorado)! Oh what an amazing year it has been!!! As a result of so many changes, I didn’t do a ton of shooting in 2019 and I definitely don’t know what 2020 will hold for my business... but I do know that I freakin love photography and love getting to step into people’s lives and love stories. So... If you’re ever around the Denver area, hit. me. up!
