A Nearly Normal Family by M.T. Edvardsson- 3.5 ⭐️- This is courtroom drama based in Sweden. I believe it’s also translated from originally being written in Swedish. The three main characters of it are a father, mother, and their 18 year old daughter who’s been accused of murder. The book is split into 3 parts, with each major characters perspective being told in each part, and more being revealed with it. I found it to be an interesting read because the justice system in Sweden is different than the one in America. I did find it to be a page turner, but in the end it fell kind of flat for me. I almost felt like the author tried to make it too twisted.

“Turns out there's a reason they call it falling in love, because when it happens - really happens - that's exactly how it feels. There's no doing or trying, you just let go and hope that someone's going to be there to catch you.” ~Love and Gelato, Jenna Evans Welch. •
I sat down on my back porch swing and I read this book all in one sitting. I absolutely loved it. If you haven’t noticed, I love romance books. •
The story is about Lina, a girl who’s mother has recently passed, and her dying wish was for Lina to go live in Italy with her father. When she arrives she receives a journal of her mother’s adventures in Italy, leading her in her mother’s footsteps as she figures out what Italy is really about, love, and gelato. •
Do you like romance books? Why or why not? •

Review originally written in July 2018. ⁣
⁣
This book gave me that “feeling” from the beginning. You know - the one that Ove, Eleanor, and Rosie gave me.⁣
⁣
I just knew I was going to love it and my instincts were correct. ⁣
⁣
It covers some pretty heavy topics (brain cancer, child loss, abuse) but it made my heart grow about three sizes. ⁣
⁣
Everyone needs a friend, y’all. All it takes is one person to see you, acknowledge you, and love you. And you will fall in love with Annie, Polly, Dr. McGrumpy, Costas, and George.

My current read is amazing! It’s been reviewed as a “feminist Lord of the Flies” and I can see that, but I also see a lot of mystery, and a sort of futuristic vibe! It has a bit of gory scenes (think fighting for your life Hunger Games style) so if you’re not into that it may not be for you. I’m really enjoying it though, and will hopefully finish it before back to school time! 💚 Share your current reads below! I’d love to know!

Are you curled up with a book tonight? Or are you people-ing? 😂 That sounds a bit ridiculous, but I know you all get what I’m asking. NERD ALERT: I’m spending the night in with After the End by Clare Mackintosh. 🤓📖

✨Q: How do you like your ice cream? In a cone? A bowl? Sundae style?
.
🍦
I’m all about sundae style ice cream. Vanilla soft serve with nuts, chocolate sauce and sprinkles 😍
.
I went through a time of making my own amazing ice cream in this ice cream maker, but I haven’t made any for ages!

I read the first of this series as part of my A level English lit syllabus. I loved Regeneration but now that I read mainly for pleasure, I've come to realise how much spending hours or agnosing over meanings within literature can make you resent a book.

Now ill be reading the whole Regeneration trilogy for pleasure and I'm sure I will find a whole new meaning and level of enjoyment in it 11 years later.

Who's working on @24in48?! 🙋🏼‍♀️I finished up A STRANGER ON THE BEACH (really enjoyed), THE MOTHER IN LAW (unexpected but solid), and am listening to SAVE ME THE PLUMS. Here's my #tbrcart- what should I read next?

QOTD: What book do you think is seriously undeerrated and needs to be recommended or talked about on Bookstagram more?
AOTD: So I'm rereading the Bloodlines series by Richelle Mead and I'm loving it more than ever. SERIOUSLY. More people need to read these and Vampire Academy so I can fangirl about them. Also on that list? The Last Namsara (and THE CAGED QUEEN, which I *adored*), and Crown of Feathers. What about you? Which books and authors should more people know about and read? (And Leah, you can't say Trudi!! 😉😉😂)
🌿
These Escaping From Houdini tarot cards were a preorder incentive for the book and I absolutely love them. The art is gorgeous and it ties in with the book so well! I think the art on the Empress card is my favourite... She just looks so self-assured and come-hither and I love it. I read Becoming the Dark Prince and I am all hype for Capturing the Devil (and my @faecrate book box order of it, with preorder incentive included)... Why isn't it out noooow. Gah.
🌿
@rainbowsandbookshelves tagged me to #spellthedayinbooks so here goes:
S- Stalking Jack the Ripper
A- A Curse So Dark and Lonely
T- Three Dark Crowns
U- Uprooted
R- Red Rising
D- Darkdawn
A- A Clash of Kings
Y- (Because) You Love to Hate Me
... If you want, play along, tagged or not! 😘

Sometimes when something heartbreakingly tragic occurs all you ever need to be reminded of it is the name of the place it happened. Columbine is one of those tragedies.
.
Columbine has been something that has stuck with me over the years because I was the same age as those involved when it happened. I can’t speak about gun laws in other countries but I do know that I’m incredibly grateful to live in a country where not every lunatic can get their hands on a gun. Does that mean my loved ones and I won’t be involved in some random act of gun violence? It absolutely does not. What it does mean is that I can be relatively sure that my nephews and nieces can go to school without the fear of getting shot.🤞
.
After a 14 year break I’ve began to focus on true crime again and when I spotted this I decided to be brave and read something that’s played on my mind since I was 17 and this tragedy came on the news while I was doing my homework. There have been many, many, many heartbreaking American mass shootings since but Columbine is the one that stays with me.
.
Has anyone read this one?

Rating:⭐️⭐️⭐️/5
Reading this book was a weird experience. It’s a story of about a peculiar lady who works in publishing. Apparently she is of Latino descent and writes a book about her experiences in New York. Not sure if I was disappointed because I expected a short touching story or because I couldn’t connect. The plot is very depressing, there is a large number of characters for a story who is only 135 pages, and the references don’t really ring a bell for me. I can applaud the author for beautiful writing the wording is incredible this book just made me very sad.

' Zirve her zaman soğuktur.'

Okay, I finished two books today and now I’m teetering on the cusp of a reading slump. I have The Last Romantics and City of Girls from the library, and Lethal White is still calling to me. Or should I go with a dependable reread? I’m pretty much only in the mood for easy audiobooks.
😎
Help me!!

Alexandra Schwartz wrote a brilliant article for this week’s @newyorkermag (Issue: July 22, 2019) about Francoise Gilot’s book, ‘Life with Picasso’, currently in re-release by New York Review Books Classics. I remember reading this book when I was in college—while in the midst of the Art History portion of my degree—and absolutely loving it!
📚🌻
Gilot’s story of loving, living with, and finally leaving Picasso, as Schwartz writes, “shines, now, as a proto-feminist classic, the tale of a young woman who found herself in the thrall of a dazzling master and ended up breaking free.”
📚🌻
Gilot has always been an extremely talented artist in her own right and continues to paint and exhibit today at the age of 97! I highly recommend checking out some of her work, reading her book, and definitely go to The New Yorker’s website and read Schwartz’s article.
📚🌻
I kind of want to reread my own copy of Gilot’s book now—a 1964 first edition that I cannot for the life of me remember where I got it… maybe Second Story Books in DC?— but I don’t think I’ll have time this summer. But maybe next summer!
📚🌻

🇬🇧 What was the last movie that you watched?
Lately I was at cinema to watch Spider-man Far From Home. I loved it! I never saw other Spiderman movies I watched just the ones with Tom Holland. So I can't compare them. But I love Tom's Spiderman. I think he's perfect for this role. And I liked plot of this movie. I don't want to spoil anything, but I liked Peters character arc and I like what they did with him in this movie. I don't know how to talk about this movie without spoiling endgame, so I just stop! I love it! And I want to watch it again. .
.
Uwielbiam ten film i chętnie obejrzałabym go jeszcze raz.

My one wish for SDCC came true 💕 I had the opportunity to meet @lbardugo at her signing today. I started crying instantly. She was so kind and sweet, I barley was able to get words out how much I appreciate how open she is with her challenges . I found her books when I was off work after my fall. Her books were an escape from the physical pain I was in. Her characters helped me feel better about my self and my body. I cant describe in words how happy I am to have meet her. Maybe next time I can make it through with out crying <3 if not thats ok to *. * * #leighbardugo #sdcc2019 #shadowandbone #shadowandbonetrilogy #sixofcrows #crookedkingdom ##Bookstagram #bookgram #bookworm #ilovetoread #books #youngadult #fantasy #ya #readingislife #booklover #Bookish #booknerd #bookaddict #bookphotography #ireadya #bookcommunity #readmorebooks #readingstagram #bookshelf #lovetoread #booksonbooks #bookstagramit #books📚

I finished this book while I was on holiday and really loved it! I’m glad I’m getting into a new series and will definitely be buying the next one! ——
If you could have an “ability” what would you like to have? Telekinesis? Teleportation? Mind reading? Ability to fly?
——
I think I’m going to re read The Mortal Instrument series next and I can’t wait to be immersed in the shadowhunter world!

My newest release #WhentheVowsBreak is a remake of my very first fiction series, #ASecretWorthKeeping.

Is it the same book? No! The characters are the same but the storyline is completely different.

Is it Christian Fiction? Not fully as book 1 is finding their way back to God, Faith, trust, etc so there is some cursing and sex (although not as explicit as before). Is it available? Yep! On #Amazon and #KindleUnlimited.

Do I need your support? ALWAYS!

How cute is my tiny book necklace?! It even has real paper pages 📖❤️
How cute is my tiny book necklace?! It even has real paper pages 📖❤️
Natomiast hejt zabija pasję i poważnie rujnuje poczucie własnej wartości. Namawiano by nie czytać ,,Prostego układu”, bo to obniża poziom inteligencji czytelnika.

The Unhoneymooners by Christina Lauren
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐/5

When you finish an entire novel in one day, can you give it anything less than five stars? I don't think so!
I LOVED this book! I loved the storyline, the characters, the wit and humor, and the setting. It literally made me laugh out loud! It was a nice, refreshing break from some of the heavier books I'd been reading lately.
This book was just such a classic guy meets girl, girl hates guy love story, but with a lot of extra plot points thrown in. AND AN EPILOGUE! 👐🏼 The Unhoneymooners would make a great beach read this summer, so definitely pick it up if you haven't already!
💬 This was my first Christina Lauren novel which is just crazy. They write exactly what I love to read. Which of their books is your favorite so I can put it on my list??

Normal People ⭐⭐⭐🌠
Ever since Normal People came out, there have been insanely mixed reviews, which led me to let it hang out on my unread shelf, until now. I am focusing on my @bookofthemonth and arcs this month and decided now or never. Well, I am up in the air. I didn't love it and I didn't hate it. There were points that I enjoyed, but many that I disliked. First off, I liked how realistic the characters were. Now I didn't actually like Connell or Marianne, but they represented normal people (probably the point, huh?). They were emotional, broken, disfunctional, and chewed up and spit out by crappy circumstances and societal expectations. .
.
.
I am a happy ending person. I'm a sucker for a sweet and sappy ending and thus book just wasnt it. I wanted them to get together and get their shit together, but alas, that is nowhere near reality. This is a story about love, but there is no romance. Don't fool yourself. Another thing unusual about this is the lack of punctuation and quotation marks to mark dialogue. It was extremely unsettling at first, but I grew used it, although I didn't necessarily like it. I often found myself lost within the words and not knowing who was speaking vs thinking. .
.
It's no surprise after this review that this wasn't my favorite, yet I still continued due to needing to know what happened. I just couldn't forget these characters and I grew attached to them, I HAD to see how their story ended. Normal People is a well written book with a purpose, and I can see why people love it, I just didn't. .

Accidentally broke my book buying ban!!!.
Yesterday evening I went to dinner with a friend of mine and while we were waiting for a table we decided to pop into the local used bookstore.
Let’s be honest, it’s really hard for me to say NO to great used books! The price is too good, and like, grow your collection? This is what I tell myself anyways!.
Here are my good finds!.

"I have always taken great pride in managing my life alone. I'm a sole survivor- I'm Eleanor Oliphant. I don't need anyone else- there's no big hole in my life, no missing part of my own particular puzzle. I'm a self-contained entity."

Currently reading Eleanor Oliphant is Completely Fine and it's had me at it's introduction to Eleanor's character. I have a really really really good feeling about this one! I can't wait to discover all that's going to unfurl about Eleanor and more.

📚Saturday Book Stack📚 !

Waterstone purchases from last Saturday when my niece and I went book shopping just before I was laid up with Shingles. My books of choice were The Corset and Nine Perfect Strangers which is from the author of Big Little Lies which I'm currently really enjoying watching the second series. A Good Girls Guide to Murder, Code Name Verity and I am Not a Number are my niece's YA reads...hopefully they will get passed on for auntie to read 😍

Thank you 😊 to everyone for their good wishes, I'm pleased to say I am well on my way to recovery, after much scratching.

Yesterday was all about my current reads, today is my on deck stack 📚 I’ve got a Pride and Prejudice retelling for the Popsugar Reading Challenge, a mystery that @thehireader recommended and a book I’m reviewing for my book club’s blog. Now that I’ve done a few romances in a row, I’m ready to introduce some more variety to my summer reading schedule! Even though I’m a mood reader and hardly ever stick to a plan, I love to pick out my next reads when I’m getting close to finishing up a book 😬

Even though I’m a mood reader and hardly ever stick to a plan, I love to pick out my next reads when I’m getting close to finishing up a book 😬 . . . . . #booklover #bookshelf #readersofinstagram #ilovetoread #readeveryday #bookreading #lovetoreadbooks #bookish #currentlyreading #ilovereading #books📚 #bookaddicted #bookishlife #allthebooks #bookaddiction #librarylover #booknerd #ilovebooks #lovereading #booksarelife #readingchallenge #booksonbooks #bookstagramit #booksharks

.

"Poetry is thoughts that breathe and words that burn." -Thomas Gray
................................................................................................................................ She often wonders why he opted to settle against the
suffocating dark blue-
instead of being here with her-
instead of where the bulit up silence in his heart will
scream louder than his own voice.
Instead of where he'll fall apart just as the sun sets and the stars begin to wink in and out- like his hope.

She often wonders why he opted to drown in the
suffocating dark blue-
instead of being here with her-
instead of where, he won't remember how to cry and can only stare in awe at the salty ocean already created.
Instead of where he'll sit and watch time eat away at what
he could've had- once upon a time.

She often wonders why he opted to hide in the
suffocating dark blue-
instead of being here with her-
Truth is, such forgiving hearts like hers
aren't meant to be loved by the weak
it's a shame he realized that too late. --Elizabeth Ray

Salut salut #booksta !

A vos liseuses !

🌖 Moon Day 🌖
⠀

“Spells are just prayers with more steps and a name that scares people.”
*
Fat, sassy, accidental witch Mila Flores is totally #goals 🙌
*
I put off reading the book for ages because I'm a totally fraidy cat, and I wasn't sure where on the zombie scale Mila's resurrected friends would lie...
*
Turns out they're more Santa Clarita Diet than Walking Dead, so no nightmares for Hailey! Great success!
*
I somehow managed to pick only books that would scare me in last library haul, so I'm about to see how Dread Nation's shamblers affect me 🙈
*
PS: This cover is totally feeding my pin addiction. I wants these.

„Księga herbaty” Kakuzo Okakury to krótka, niespełna 80-stronicowa książeczka napisana w 1906 roku. Sporo historii, przypowieści, a to wszystko napisane z niebanalnym humorem. Polecam bez wahania!

A jak już jesteśmy przy temacie herbaty… Pijecie? Lubicie? Jaką najbardziej? Ja od lat pochłaniam herbatę nałogowo. Wypiję prawdopodobnie każdy napar 😅Ostatnio jednak odkrywam świat zielonej matchy - ponoć najzdrowszej herbaty świata 🍵 A jak jest u Was? .

Happy Saturday, bookstafam!
.
Do you prefer sunrises or sunsets? 🌅
.
I’m rarely up early enough to enjoy seeing the sun rise, but I do love sunsets. That glow in the sky, the first stars twinkling to life, the hush that falls over everything. I especially love those spectacularly colourful sunsets that seem to be rare this year for some reason. 😍
.
We’re under a heat advisory today (I’m mellllting 😓) and if you are too, I hope you’re staying cool! Remember to stay hydrated and don’t overdo it. Have a great Saturday, friends! 💙 .

I only picked it up because I loved The Hate U Give and Angie Thomas is brilliant😆 Otherwise, the idea of a coming of age story based on music would’ve never interested me.
I love that there’s more representation in YA. There’s not a single white main character in this story. A lot of people are upset about it, but white characters have been at the center of YA for forever. I once saw a tweet that said “Black kids deserve a coming of age story where violence or drugs aren’t the plot”...And, though both those things are BRIEFLY mentioned, this book accomplishes that without stereotyping black people.
She addresses a lot of other backgrounds and stories as well. While Angie Thomas doesn’t pretend to know what goes on in a gay teenager’s mind, she still includes his background and story in the novel and acknowledges that his experiences aren’t her experiences.
And Bri, I love that girl. I loved her interactions with her family and her personality. I’ve noticed people saying that they didn’t like the character because she jumps to conclusions and acts with no regard to consequences. Adults reading YA need to bear in mind that it’s YA. That’s the nature of the beast that is adolescence. The target audience is teenagers, who have a tendency to be irrational and impulsive. Much like Bri, they make the same mistakes over and over again and deserve a modicum of patience.
The writing was fantastic. Reading the lyrics to Bri’s songs made me feel like I was watching 8 Mile again, when Eminem destroyed Papa Doc . Without giving too much away, I love when author’s refer to other authors and their stories or just being inspired by them.
Also this book is going to be a movie and I’m very excited about it! Overall a great read and definitely recommend.

I scored Little Fires Everywhere at a used bookstore and sped through it in a couple days. After reading Everything I Never Told You I was eager to read Celeste Ng's next book, and it didn't disappoint.

Little Fires Everywhere explores motherhood, identity, and privilege through the perspectives of 2 very different families. I felt that I wanted a little more from the ending, but I still loved the story, and rereading the book might help me see it differently. I can't wait to see how Reese Witherspoon brings LFE to life on television. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

What are some meaningful milestones in your reading life? Has a book ever changed your life?
.
Good morning, bookstagram friends! Happy weekend! I hope you have fun plans and that at least some of those plans involve a good book and a yummy drink. 😊 This pretty mug is from @spearcraftbookbox from their Jane Austen box last fall. One of my favorite boxes of all time, and this mug gets used constantly. 💛
.
I was tagged by @balancingbooksandcoffee to do a little get-to-know-you type questionnaire. If it sounds like fun, please feel free to do it too!
.
My answers got way too lengthy and don't all fit here, so I'm sticking most of them in the comments, but I'm leaving question 14 here, because I think it's interesting.
.
14. Has a book ever changed your life? I think a lot of books have. The first book I read without help. The first "big kid" books I owned, hand chosen and inscribed by my dad when I was 8.(A Wrinkle in Time and The Wind in the Door) My first really long book(Moby Dick). The first time I felt the teary eyed emptiness at the end of an incredibly good book(The Return of the King). The first and only book that left me full on breathless sobbing my eyes out(Les Miserables). The brain science books I read to be a better parent.
Books always change us in some way.

THE SWORD OF SUMMER - Rick Riordan
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
I am loving the Magnus Chase series so far. All I know about Norse mythology is from Neil Gaiman's Norse Mythology, and the supremely adjusted characters from the Avengers movies. It makes for a nice change of pace because I don't already have preconceived notions about how the gods should act, so I can just enjoy the story.

And when a book starts with the quote above, it’s more than likely that it will be a good one. My first ever read of Julian Barnes came about because of a movie with the same name that I’ve once watched. 🌻
It was different and the ending was intriguing, and I liked it enough to know that I want to read the book.
A short read, which explores the story of a man who comes to terms with his past. Tony Webster is now retired but the past comes back to haunt him with memories of his group of friends and this one girl. 🌻
Narrated from Tony’s perspective, the book feels like a intimate dialogue that Tony has with you over coffee. He tells you his life story and the recent events and emotions. It’s raw, it’s honest, it’s relatable, it’s genuine and heartbreaking. I finished the book thinking I’ve actually met this guy. I’ve also loved that Tony and his mates loved books and a bit of philosophy at such a young age. I loved how mysterious Adrian was. I didn’t like the girl, but then it even made it more real for me because of it. 🌻
🌻
It’s different from what I usually read, but I enjoyed it thoroughly. It made me reflect upon so many life aspects. So next time you are on a book hunt and you see it by chance, pick it up from the shelf, buy it and read it. It’s worth it. 🌻
🌻
The sunflowers just matched the book perfectly for me. They are my favourite because they bring back nostalgic memories of a different time. 🌻

Now if you’ve read this far, tell me what’s your flower?

Nada. A narrativa me prendeu logo de início, apesar de detalhista demais, adorei ver a história do ponto de vista de John. 🥰

O final me decepcionou bastante. 🤔

║review║★★★★☆ this is a mind-blowing explosive thriller that I’d recommend to anyone who (1) has a whole day on their hands to read this in one sitting and (2) enjoys movies like Interstellar or Deja Vu or Inception. I picked this up off my TBR shelf one night haphazardly not realizing that I would be consumed by this story.  Guys, this book is INTENSE.  I’m a very literal, pragmatic person so the concept of time, or the speed of light, or how memories are stored in our brains are all things beyond my comprehension.  This book challenges all of those things.  It’s about time-traveling through our memories, altering our pasts, and positing that the concept of our past, present, and future is all a figment of the human imagination.  But, it’s a thriller: so picture that premise with a woman trying to save the world.  Yeah, it’s amazing.  So why not five stars?  In my opinion, it got a little too science-y at times, which detracted a bit from the suspense and intensity of the story.  I also think the story lost a bit of steam in Book 5 (which is the final “chapter,” spanning just under 100 pages). But then it picked back up at the end, leaving me excited for what Shonda Rhimes is going to do with this for Netflix! Overall, an excellent book! .
