A funny thing happened to me yesterday. I was working away on the iMac when I suddenly felt dizzy, my head felt like it was going to explode and I just felt ‘blah’. Of course I still had work to do for my clients and that takes preference, or does it? When your body is giving you the signs to rest, do you listen?
I’ve mentioned a few times about how having a work/life balance is so important for my mind, body and soul. I have made it a habit to always do this on weekends and not be tempted to ‘do a little catchup’ on weekends. However, if during the working hours I get struck with feeling unwell, I struggle to listen to my body and I tend to persevere through.
This is what happened to me yesterday and I wasn’t listening. Those little signs kept appearing hinting to me to have a break, of course I ignored them. Eventually the internet dropped out, “ok universe, I get it, I need to rest”. I could have hot spotted the internet from my phone, or gone to a cafe with wifi to continue working, but I decided to listen. It wasn’t easy, I lay there thinking of the things I needed to do, but eventually I drifted off to sleep and woke up hours later.
In modern day style I looked at Instagram upon waking and within a few flicks of the thumb I saw this gorgeous image of Simone from @the_whitewalls_project
. It was a sign… literally. The funny thing was that it was one of the cards I designed for her ‘Power Pack’ and one that, quite clearly, I need to stick on my computer as a reminder to maintain my work/life balance, weekday or weekend.
