“The last thing you will ever be in this world, girl, is someone’s hero. But you will be a girl heroes fear.”
Let me start off by saying Nevernight is not for the faint of heart (or stomach). While the main characters are in their teens, this is most definitely a mature novel. From gore & blood to everything in between, this was not intended for the young adult audience. I can see that this series could be very polarizing. It’s brutal, dramatic, shocking at every turn.
That being said, I was whole heartedly invested in this book! I couldn’t get enough of this twisted & mysterious fantasy! I will admit that it took some patience at the beginning, but at about the 80 page mark I couldn’t stop reading! It was just what I was in the mood for to get me out of my reading slump. Kristoff has such a great sense of humor that I couldn’t get enough of that was mainly portrayed in the footnotes throughout. They were a unique way to explore and learn about the world. I had never seen that in a fantasy book before! It was much more satisfying than constantly getting information dumped on you.
While this book has elements that may not be for everyone, I would highly recommend giving it a shot! 4.5 stars 🌟
