MONDAY MOOD 😎 Let’s talk about content pillars and organizing our content strategically 🙌🏼 A question I get asked quite often by people who are beginning their blogs or content creation journeys is “how do you know what to write about? How do you stay motivated and creatively inspired?” And that stumped me for a while 🤔 As a writer gal who has never had a problem putting pen to paper and writing any and everything, I didn’t really understand the question. “If you don’t like to write, maybe this isn’t for you...” I would think, but that’s not the correct answer AT ALL 🤦🏽♀️ Truth is, now I have a better understanding of what those people were asking me.
A GREAT WAY to stay inspired, motivated and creatively organized is to create PILLARS for your content. Content pillars are basically a fancy-schmancy way of saying “categories” or “main topics” of your content. For example, my pillars are: blogger how to’s and content creations tips, sustainable beauty and fashion, and higher education. Most or all of my content falls under these three categories.
Once you determine your content pillars, you can then create sub-categories for your content and plan strategically around those topics. I recommend drawing it out like a brainstorming web 🕸 and tying each topic to each other — from there you can see how one post naturally leads to another, how you can refer back to a past or future post and how to make your content flow! 🙌🏼
For example, if my topic for this week has to do with creating pillars — I might write this post, write a supplemental blog post to toss to, detail more about pillars in another post this week, make some Instagram stories or an IGTV about the topic and share more resources about pillars in particular for my audience. Maybe not every post this week will be about it, but it overall is my pillar subject for this week. Does that make sense?
This is just one way of always having ideas for content and staying inspired within your niche. Do you have pillars? What are they? ⬇️
