After a month or poor eating, 2 holidays and 2 slack weeks of training in between, I’m starting to volley my hoop in to gear. New 8 week block, sporting cake/pizza socks to commemorate my last 30 days’ lifestyle. Day 1 of 8-week strength/power block, focussing on all pull movements I hate. Despite facials on the deadlift, everything felt pretty straight forward.

-Weighted Dead-Stop Chin-Up: 3x5 +30kg
-Single-Arm Back Extension 2x12 each side +18kg
-Roman Chair Oblique Crunch: 2x12 each side +18kg

What was the definition of insanity again? Doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results?
-

If every time you train pull ups it looks like this:
-

jump up on the bar, squeeze out a handful of reps, rest, get 1-2 reps less, rest, then on your last set grind out a couple reps.
-

Then it’s time for a change of pace.
-

This type of training simply lacks the volume and variety to improve your current pull up abilities.
-

Here are 3 ways to spice up your training and improve your pull up game:
-

1: Add weight. Simple adjustment here, increasing the intensity of your sets can help improve strength.
-

2: Add slow eccentrics and isometric holds. This could mean pull yourself up and hold at the top for 5 seconds, or hold for 4 seconds then lower for 4 seconds, or lower for 30 seconds! Be creative with these, they are an INCREDIBLE tool for building size and strength.

3: Use bands not for assistance, but for resistance. The increasing tension as the rep progresses forces a more forceful contraction needed to build the momentum to finish the rep. Again, awesome for building strength and power in the pull up. Hook two bands up to the rack near your pockets, then cross the bands over your chest and shoulders making an X.

My first time back at weights after a 6 week rest. Forced rest due to appendicitis. No joke. I have to start like from the beginning. SLDL 10kg today instead of 100kg 🙄. But I have my health and a few extra kilos, but nothing that can’t be changed. Loving to be back and slowly building up. Never let anything break your spirit. I think back muscles are not focused by many women maybe because we simply can’t see them 😅. And some that do are doing back workouts because they think they’ll lose back fat. I’m sorry, sweetie, that’s not how it works. We can improve our back muscles on our back but doing them won’t automatically spot reduce back fat #truth.

But this workout routine is a great way to show different rowing motions that are key 🔑 in back workouts.

When i first started working out in February at the gym there was an older man who would be in the sauna with me everyday, and he spoke straight-VALUE

I remember telling this Gentleman ‘Tim’ who you could tell was a strong Christian (Just by hearing him speak) That i thought God had placed me in this sauna with him everyday. I looked forward to hearing him talk every morning. .

We haven’t crossed paths in sometime, but this morning i believe God sat me back in this sauna with Tim for a reason. He asked immediately as i sat down: “Why do women at a young age not see their WORTH”? .

The words he spoke this morning spoke right to me, and as he left the sauna he said “Just today remember your worth” & all i could do was whisper “Thank you, God”
