It was a Sunday morning, we sleepily got together a bag of things, climbed into the car and drove west.
We didn't check the weather forecast, or the tides, or plan outfits. It was just us, our cameras, the wind in our hair, the sounds of the waves, and the little bits of blue sky between the passing rain clouds.
Whatipu is WILD. The expanse of the black sand, the cliffs rising up behind you, the caves in the rock, the reckless wind and the waves pounding on the shore, again and again and again.
It was WILD and it was MAGIC.
After climbing some sand dunes, almost being blown off the cliff, teased by scattered rain showers and walking the length of the beach, we turned on the car heater and ate cold pizza, before going back home.
We all need more WILD in our lives. If you're lucky enough to live in Auckland, jump in your car and drive west.
