The crane represents good fortune and longevity. As the bird of happiness, the crane is a mystical creature which is believed to live for thousands of years. For us, matcha is our slice of happiness, what is yours?
This. Week. Has. Been. Crazy. CRAZY! For all of us...
I’ve been feeling particularly emotional this week. So may good things happening, with the launch of @pot_la’s new web store and their 2-year anniversary—I’m so grateful for Mandy and Ambar and all the badass people of POT. They add purpose to my life.
But also feelings of helplessness with the comments against Ilhan Omar, the 5 year anniversary of Eric Garner, continued fear and hate towards the Latin immigrant community and the constant confronting feeling of helplessness for the homeless people of LA. This week I’m also reminded of the power that we as people and communities have as I see the people of Puerto Rico fight for their respect. I’m reminded that joy exist in small acts, and that we all have the power to choose love and joy—even when it seems impossible.
I buy our home flowers when I need that extra boost of love and light. I’m reminded that the pieces I make go beyond their daily use, and are an affirmation of my existence as a queer brown person in America, and the love I have for myself and those around me.

Kintsugi – when the wound is healed with the gold of love. The art of kintsugi is a Japanese art of restoring broken ceramics with gold. “Healed”ceramics is valued more then the ordinary one as now it has history, it has “scars”. Painting live at @agnispiritfestival I had a chance to experience this insight deeply.
The painting was almost finished. At night with a storm wind the easel fell down and canvas broke in 3 places. It was easy to glue the holes together from the back, but in front in the most visible places white stripes of broken fabric were left.
What to do? Find 30 shades of color to cover it up? It will still be visible, painting is spoiled.
And then I remembered. Golden glue to restore that which is broken. Of course!
I dipped my brush in gold acrylics and in few minutes scars turned into gold. And not just outside on the painting. Pain inside my heart. Repaired with the gold of love. The magic of painting with awareness.
A Phoenix is flying up, free and powerful . A silent and simple flame in the center of my being. It is not only a spirit portrait of the festival, is it a profound reflection of where I am right now. Yes, it was incomplete without those scars. Putting gold onto them, made me reconsider the parts in me that I normally hide.
I am not surprised by this synchronicity as this is the way it happens with Soul Portraits – the painting I create for someone else makes me realize things I have not seen before and it happens in the right time.
Creating Soul portraits is a mystery that I keep investigating with the sense of wonder.
The original was gifted to @nalua.lab and I'm happy it will be in her house.
I’m planning to remake it though in my favorite graphic technique refining the details and unveiling hidden mysteries of my own heart.
