I don’t usually discuss hot button topics on social media but with the latest incident, I kinda think the lack of conversation on the topic isn’t helping the problem.
The kids started asking questions about some of the horrible latest news related to #GeorgeFloyd
We didn’t sugar coat things, though we shared the amount of info that’s appropriate for kids their age to know.
Locally, Al’s Sport Shop is making these signs for free for anyone who wants them. So I took them this morning to pick one up & put it in our yard.
Just like how not all attorneys are “ambulance chasers”, not all salesmen are sleazy/shady, not all cops are bad. I’ve got friends who are in law enforcement that are incredible human beings. Sadly the bad ones are the ones that make the headlines when the good ones far outnumber the bad cops.
With that said, something has to change. Year after year, sadly it’s the same story.
I don’t necessarily believe the racism problem is getting worse. Follow me on that thought for a second...I unfortunately think it’s always been bad so for all intents & purposes, it’s stayed the same. There’s just more visibility as now everyone’s got technology in their pockets to film these horrible incidents & distribute it to the world.
What’s the answer? I don’t know. Maybe more open discussion will help. Nevertheless, this sign will stay up in our lawn as a sign to others but most of all, our boys, that we treat everyone with respect no matter their race or other differences.
