I know I am two days too late, but still #HappyPrideMonth
my peeps. I love y'all so so much. I started thing page just two months back, and one of the reasons was to be as as helpful as I can to raise the voices of the marginalized communities. Me being cis - gender person, gives me immense privilege, not only in personal and social space but also in the social media presence. Pride for me is special and has also been becoming more and more special these past years as it gives me the space and calm to better understand and question my sexuality. I learnt about the Pride Month around 3 years back, and the way the literature engrossed me was just breathtaking. From learning about the Stonewall Riots, and more importantly how it was a Black Trans Womxn Marsha P. Johnson who started it, to the fight that LGBTQIA+ community has been fighting in India against the whole queer-phobic society and system was...frustrating and inspiring at the same time. I, personally in my social sphere and through my online presence through this page, will always endeavour to be a safe space for people of all gender-indentities and sexual orientations.
As we commemorate the Stonewall Riots, this year it is also important to notice that, the reason Pride started wasn't only about marriage equality or rights but about the fight against Police Brutality, systemic abuse, systemic discrimination and oppression. It was because of those riots against these unjust practices which still exist today, that the LGBTQIA+ community has the recognition and the rights, that it has today (though there's still a long long long way to go). So, if you're a member of the LGBTQIA+ Community or even an "ally", it's imperative for you to know and understand that you cannot "Not support the #BLM
movement in the West and the #CasteAnnihilation
movement in India" and at the same moment support the LGBTQIA+ community.
