Daily Positivity: Memorial Day .
.
Happy Memorial Day.
Something a bit more calm, quite, and reflective for today's drawing.
There's a ballfield near my house that my family takes frequent walks to, especially as of late. A few days ago I noticed someone had planted small American flags along one of the paths. I thought it was a bittersweet kind of gesture given the current circumstances and the holiday, a good way to incorporate remembrance while also respecting social distancing and adapting to incorporate the two together in this small but powerful gesture.
.

Welcome to the newest series of pieces I'll be making titled "Daily Positivity". I'm making these quicker daily pieces as a way for me to channel my "nervous energy' during these scary and unpredictable times we are currently living in during the Covid-19 pandemic. These posts are entirely based on my personal perspective and choice to focus on the positive side of things. Every week day until June 5th, I'll be posting sketches of one positive thing I am focusing on during this pandemic. While these topics are a reflection of my personal experience and outlook on the current situation, I hope that you may find solace and comfort in their messages as well.
Stay safe, wash your hands, and choose to focus on the positive whenever possible!

Daily Positivity: Backyard Campfires
.
.
Definitely thankful that we have a little backyard firepit at my house. There's just something so relaxing about sitting next to a crackling outdoor firepit in the evenings, especially now as summer is starting to get underway. Also helps me feel a bit more connected to camp and that part of my life when I'm not able to be there. Also I just love building fires 🔥. Pictures are from a backyard s'mores hangout I did with my mom and sister last week.

Daily Positivity: Paracord Projects .
.
I tend to spend a lot of my time working on art related things such as work, personal projects, product development, and sharpening my skills with various mediums. So sometimes it's a really refreshing break to focus on a hobby that is a bit less creatively taxing and is more practical in nature. Working with paracord is a great hobby for this since it can be both practical and/or decorative, depending on the application. I definitely have plenty more to learn and explore with this paracord hobby in the future.
I decided to do a sketch focusing on the woven pattern found in this hand sanitizer wrap that I made this afternoon. If you're interested in how to make this wrap yourself, I followed Weaver's of Enternity's YouTube tutorial to make it. Quick fun little project to make and the tutorial is super clear and easy to follow along with.

Daily Positivity: Cultivating Healthy Habits .
.
Since quarantine started, one personal goal that I've been working on is developing healthy habits and deliberately scheduling in times to clean and and declutter, so now Monday's are my cleaning days, when I go through the house and sanitize all of the high touch areas in the house to help prevent people in my house from getting sick in my own small way. Giving myself this task is also helping me to feel like I'm doing my part to help around the house, and gives me a bit of a sense of purpose outside of myself and my art, something that definitely helps to alleviate some guilt around not being able to go to work during this time. This scheduling is definitely helping me to remember to clean before I get overwhelmed by clutter and having it in my schedule will hopefully help this habit to stick around, even past the stay at home orders.

Hiii💛 Just a little reminder that whatever happens to you, don’t let it change the positive outlook of your day!⁣
⁣
Stuff is always going to test you, usually when you’re already a little down. That’s life!! It’s okay. It’s about how we respond. Settle your initial reactions and work to ensure that minor stressors aren’t eating away at your wellbeing or how you treat others.⁣
⁣
I’ll be honest with you... being unemployed has been very hard for me! My job gives me so much happiness and purpose and without it I feel like a piece of me is missing. So I’m down. Well, guess what has happened since I’ve been down?⁣
⁣
I got a (very expensive) speeding ticket (my fault)⁣
I got sick and had to rush to urgent care⁣
My car got towed for no reason⁣
You can say I’ve gotten “kicked” while being down...
⁣
But, am I letting those things dictate my mood and my days?! Absolutely not!!! Because guess what else has happened during this time?!⁣
⁣
I’ve reconnected with old friends⁣
I’ve visited my parents twice in one month⁣
I’ve helped numerous people with their fitness goals⁣
I’ve had the opportunity to be at home with my puppy⁣
& the list goes on⁣
⁣
There is so much GOOD around us at all times. We may have to look harder for it at some points, but it is always there!!! Don’t forget that. ⁣
⁣
I hope you smile a lot today 😊💛⁣

Daily Positivity: Magic in the Mundane .
.
Being able to find joy and wonder in seemingly ordinary and small things definitely helps to keep the boredom and similarity fatigue at bay while being stuck at home. Most of my favorite small enjoyments come from nature. These include watching bugs and other small wild animals in my backyard, enjoying the warmth and feeling of sitting in the sun, and slight breezes during warm weather.
What magically mundane things do you enjoy? Let me know in the comments.

Daily Positivity: Celebrate
.
.
Its been really neat to see how people are still celebrating special occasions in the age of Covid-19. Whether its virtual graduation ceremonies, parades of cars though the neighborhood for Mother's Day, or balloons on mailboxes and special at home Birthday dinners, celebrating these special occasions makes everything seem just a bit better and closer to the pre-Corona normal. .
.
Also he won't see it on here because he doesn't have an Instagram and I already wished him one earlier, but Happy 29th Birthday to big brother Cody! 🎉

Daily Positivity: Cold Treat on a Hot Day
.
.
Sometimes it's the little things that brighten up your day the most. For me, either a cold iced coffee or a freeze pop is a great afternoon pick-me-up on a hot day like today. What's your go to cold treat on a hot day?
.
I really zoned into the colors on this piece and that warm cool contrast that screams "summer vibes". Was super fun to just zone out and let color really speak the loudest and take the lead in this piece!

Daily Positivity: Bring Back an Old Favorite .
.
With extra time on my hands, I figured what better time to bring back an old hobby of mine... sculpting! I haven't had time for it much in recent years, but sculpting with polymer clay used to be one of my favorite artistic mediums. It was nice to bring back something that I used to spend so much time doing as a teenager. To be able to let go of expectations for a finished product and to just dabble a bit with a 3D medium is a really nice change of pace for my art, and something I'll definitely consider incorporating into my routine a bit more in the future.

Daily Positivity: Optimistic Hopes with Realistic Planning .
.
With so many aspects of life up in the at the moment, it can be difficult to look at 2020 in a positive light. To help myself get through this time, I'm making the conscious effort to look at the rest of this year with a mixed perspective. With a combination of optimistic hopes and realistic planning, 2020 doesn't have to be all doom and gloom. Keeping hope and anticipation alive for the future keeps motivation and spirits up, while the realism balances out expectations and helps to give solid footing for putting potential plans in place. Striking a balance between these two views certainly won't be easy, but I think it will absolutely benefit those willing to give it a try with a bit more piece of mind when it comes to looking at what the rest of 2020 could have to offer.

Striking a balance between these two views certainly won't be easy, but I think it will absolutely benefit those willing to give it a try with a bit more piece of mind when it comes to looking at what the rest of 2020 could have to offer. . . Daily Positivity: Taking Breaks
.
.
With more time at home and less of my time scheduled through my work for Girl Scouts or seeing friends, I've been ramping up my art production and am still spending most of my time "working" in one form or another, be it taking an online class, developing products to sell in the future, or working on freelance assignments. As I'm scheduling myself, I keep finding how increasingly important it is to take breaks from the work as well. No matter how much I love making art and bringing mine and other's ideas to life through it, breaks are crucial to keep myself from getting burnt out. For me right now, a break means putting down all of my art materials, stepping away from my desk, and finding something entertaining to do that has nothing to do with my work for 15 - 30 mins. After taking these short breaks, I almost always feel refreshed and excited to get back to what I was working on, more so than if I hadn't given myself a small break. I'm not always good at remembering to take breaks (especially if I'm working on a longer project that is harder to break into smaller chunks of work at a time), but that is one of the positive self improvement things I am working on for myself during this time.
Have you given yourself a break recently? Be kind to yourself and remember to take breaks every now and again. More often than not you'll come back to the work with fresh eyes and a renewed excitement for whatever project you are working on!

Enjoy the Sunshine .
.
There's nothing like taking the opportunity to enjoy the sunshine while you have it. It won't always be shining and rain or clouds may come along and block it out from time to time, but the sun will always come back eventually. Enjoy the warmth and light it brings while you can.

Daily Positivity: Effective Use of Space
.
.
With many people working from home as of late, using the space available to use as effectively as possible is even more vital of a skill than ever before. As an artist, this is something I strive to do already, but I've learned even more to appreciate this skill and a few new things to help me more effectively work with the space I have. One of the big things that I'm tackling now in regards to this, is compartmentalizing my things to keep specific areas only occupied by items related to the task at hand for that area. In other words, only work supplies on my desk, no eating meals or lounging around when I'm taking a break at my workspace. This is really helping me to be able to switch gears much more naturally between tasks, so my brain knows that when I sit at my desk, it means work time. This is definitely one positive skill that I'm try to develop more during this time, and I highly recommend giving it a try if you're trying to get more things done and help dispel distractions during your days at home.

Daily Positivity: Listen to the Sounds of Nature
.
.
Listening to nature and all its sounds can be really relaxing, and a nice way to hear that the world is still turning and that life goes on, despite the chaos of the current situation.
Drawing ears in detail is definitely not something I'm very accustomed to, much less so trying to turn said ear into a conglomeration of other objects and animals, while still having it remain readable as an ear! Despite this challenge, I quite like how this little illustration turned out. It was a nice break to just focus on line work and black and white art for s bit of a change.

Daily Positivity: Scenic Drive
.
.
One way to get a nice change of scenery while maintaining social distancing is to go for a nice scenic drive near where you live. My mom and I hopped in the car over the weekend, with no particular destination in mind, and just drove around the Pine Barrens. Looking at the trees, animals, and houses we passed by was a nice way to change things up while being safe in the current situation, and as a bonus we even got to see a really beautiful turkey walking along the side of the road (photos following illustration). If you're looking for a safe social distancing activity to do, maybe give a short scenic drive a try, I know it definitely helped me to get some fresh air and look at things outside of my immediate neighborhood dog walk route for a change.

No matter how dark things may seem, there is always light. .
Light could be seeing a beautiful sunrise or having the strength to get out of bed and face the day. It could be completing those long overdue tasks or finishing that book you started reading a few months ago. It could be deciding to have an ice cream instead of a healthy smoothie (yes, you read that right).

We always have a choice, even when it might seem like we don’t. Choose the light ✨

Daily Positivity: Exercise Your Imagination .
.
Staying entertained and active during stay at home orders can be difficult for sure, but those limitations mean even more incentive to get creative. Just like Spongebob said years ago "Not as long as we have our imagination". Whether its finding an alternative to TV time by imagining countless scenarios involving cardboard boxes, or taking a walk on a treadmill and imagining your taking a walk on the beach instead (aided by a nearby beach scented candle), using the imagination as a tool can really help to escape from the boredom and stress of being stuck at home for extended periods of time.

Daily Positivity: Game Night
.
.
Whether it's video games or board games, family game night can really help to boost morale and break up the monotony of being stuck at home during quarantine. At my house we've been playing alot of classic board games like Trouble and Connect 4, as well as some Mario Kart 64 and various iterations of Mario Party. What's your family's Game Night game of choice?

Daily Positivity: Gratitude List
.
.
It's always good to take a step back, take stock of your life, and think about all the things you are truly grateful for. At a time like this, thinking about all the good things that we have in life and acknowledging how thankful we are for them can help put you back in touch with all the things that truly matter, and helps to brush aside the inconveniences in favor of seeing the bigger picture. This illustration features just some of the things, people, and opportunities in my life currently that I am grateful for. What's on your Gratitude List? Let me know!

Daily Positivity: Focus on the "Can", not "Can't"
.
.
As with plenty of other difficult situations, it's easy to get wrapped up in thinking about the limitations of social distancing. But focusing on the uncontrollable and uncomfortable things makes it unnecessarily harder to actually cope with the situation. Rather than focusing on all of the things that I can't do because of stay at home orders, I am choosing to focus on all of the things that I can do. Just like most situations, we can't choose the current circumstances that we find ourselves in, but what we can do however, is choose how we react. Focusing on the "can" won't make the "cannot' go away, but it does make it much easier to move forward though. This is definitely a lesson I learned long before Covid-19, but I feel its message is especially valuable to remember and share during these times. .

Daily Positivity: Show Support .
.
It's so incredibly important to thank and support all of those on the frontlines during this pandemic. Thank you too the doctors, nurses, hospital personel, medical workers, grocery store employees, all of those in food service, delivery drivers and factory workers, and many more. These frontline heroes keep essential goods and services running, putting themselves at risk, in the service of others. They go out to work so that many of us can stay home, healthy, and in relative comfort. Stay home and show support for those on the frontline!

Welcome to the newest series of pieces I'll be making titled "Daily Positivity". I'm making these quicker daily pieces as a way for me to channel my "nervous energy" during these scary and unpredictable times we are currently living in during the Covid-19 pandemic.

"And you ask ‘What if I fall?’ Oh but my darling, what if you fly?” ~ Erin Hanson

Keeping perspective of our global situation... knowing better, brighter days are ahead. Continuing to stay focused on the process... learning, changing, forming my wings to fly, deep and rich with color. This butterfly is anxious to fly!

Daily Positivity: Scheduling, Organization, and Prioritizing .
.
Lots of things in life are a bit up in the air and out of individual people's control nowadays due to Covid-19. And since I'm the kind of person that finds comfort in a schedule and accomplishing goals, keeping myself on track seems like the best way to me for me to stay sane and have relative stability in what I can control. If you feel the same way maybe these ideas can help you too.
I'm a schedule oriented person, so I use a goals planner and break things down in manageable chunks for myself by week, day, and month. And on a day to day basis I try to keep my wake up and going to sleep times consistent, as well as my meal times. This base of timed events helps me shift and puzzle other more flexible things around so I can create a daily schedule that works for me. I find that this really helps to add structure to my day when at a time like this it's a bit harder to naturally find structured times, why not make it yourself and customize it to your needs. Take that opportunity to become better at self discipline, personal time management, and setting and obtaining goals!

Daily Positivity: Movie Nights
.
.
With extra time and more focus on being at home with family, movie nights are always a great option for something to do. So far I've been able to catch up on watching a few movies that I missed seeing in theaters while I was away at college for the past few years. And the added bonus of movie watching at home, you can be as comfortable as you want. I always get cold at movie theaters from not moving around for a few hours, so watching movies on the couch with pillows and blankets is much more comfortable to me.

Daily Positivity: Meaningful Conversation .
.
Genuine human connection and bonds are so important, especially now when we are all physically separated for the most part. That's why having good communication is so crucial. Even apart, we are still connected through how we interact, be it over the phone, text, or internet, conversation and keeping connections strong and healthy are vital. Show people that they matter to you, tell someone you appreciate what they did for you, and openly share compassion, friendship, and love. Deep meaningful conversations and consistent and kind communication can help us all to feel slightly more at peace, and a little less isolated during these difficult times. Stay connected to those you love, and verbally reach out to those around you if you can. The best way we get through this pandemic is together in solidarity... even while staying home and socially distancing.

Today, look out for all the beautiful things in the world.
.
Seek confirmation that you are AMAZING!
.
Look for any signs that point to today being magical.
.
Whether it be the small like the wee flower that's growing out of the crack in your building, or  a lovely women saying hi when you're both out for your daily walk.
.
There are amazing things happening all around us, and we get to choose if we let it positively infiltrate us or not.
.
So, today, CHOOSE the POSITIVE ✨✨✨

Ever since I was a little kid, I was enamored with Bruce Lee. His movies, health and physical fitness, and his philosophical work. The man was unique. Daily Positivity: Make It Musical .
.
I'm super pumped about how this one turned out! This is by far the most complicated piece I have done for this series so far. My skills with Adobe Illustrator were really tested on this one and it took me hours to complete, but I'm really proud of the end result of all that hard work, definitely worth it in my mind! .
Piggy backing off of yesterday's topic a bit, Make it Musical refers to how much joy and energy listening to music can bring to mundane tasks. I absolutley love listening to music and can almost always be seen wearing my wireless over the ear headphones, especially while I'm working on art and illustrations. Now that the rest of my family is home all day with me as well, these headphones really come in handy to allow me to hear my music, and tune out distractions so I can get my work done. This piece features a combination of the model of headphones I use (Skullcandy Riff Wireless) and the names of some of my favorite bands/ musical artists that I listen to most. The color palette comes from the headphones themselves too, I have the teal and orange pair, and I love the color combo of these, so I decided to include it in the piece as well.
.
These bands/ musicians featured are definitely my favorites and I would highly recommend checking out their stuff if you haven't heard them before (especially the more niche groups), but they are only a handful of all the music I listen to. I'm always interested in hearing new music and artists that I haven't listened too before.
Are any of these bands/ singers also on your favorites list? Got any suggestions for good music I should give a listen to? Let me know in the comments below! I'd love to chat about music with you guys 😁❤

Daily Positivity: Dance it Out
.
.
Lots of us are probably feeling like we have to move around or be productive or just do something nowadays, but that can be difficult during isolation. What to do you ask? Why not dance it out! As someone with ADHD, my body and brain are constantly seeking out stimuli and entertainment, which can be frustrating to fight against, especially when space is limited... so why not instead embrace it! Harness that restless energy (whatever its source may be) and use it to get from point A to point B in an amusing way. It adds a ton more fun to mundane tasks to dance while doing them. You could shimmy across the kitchen, jump around to get to the couch, or boogie your way out of bed in the morning, the possibilities are endless! And if you're self conscious about your dance moves, there probably aren't alot of folks around to see them at the moment... so be goofy, act silly, and dance that energy out!
.
In the spirit of this theme, I've created a simple maze art illustration of various dancing stick figures. Can you move to the groove around the dancers and find your way from Start to End?
.

Wonder what he was telling her here hmmm. 🤔. Well it doesn't matter, all that matters is one day she will back and say bubba/Cameron or whatever she will call him " remember that day when we made the first fire that fire pit that dad built " IM GREATFUL 🙏🏾. Now does that mean everything in my world is perfect absolutely NOT, however IM GREATFUL. Just like you I experience the physical limitations/restrictions, emotional and mental strains of wrestling with the reality with this worldwide Pandemic. However If you know me well enough you know i have over time work systems of handle stress/chaos fairly well. However I'm still human and these a trying times for all of us. However if you focus on the positives things during these times it will help balance things out. Now I'm not saying ignore reality or undermine the magnitude or the current situation. What I'm saying is focus on the positives for example if you are reading this and you have access to a smart phone which better than 2 billion people world wide and chances are you not on a vent fighting this disease... So choose to be greatful , choose to look at the positives..... choose to ignore the negativity...... Choose to show love.... Choose to fight our innate nature to see the worst in every situation because the worse doesn't happen all the the time..... We are living in the most advanced time in history to solve the problems we are facing so choose hope...... I do pray for all those who have lost love ones. I believe God will guide us to where we need to be but I'm looking at positives and you can find the positive in every situation..... while keeping things realistic..... Love and respect too all . Please stay safe and Hopeful about the future #Covid19 #choosethepositive #hope #grateful #lifeisnotazerosumgame #wearellinthistogether #Godislove #wewillriseagain

Daily Positivity: Culinary Curiosities .
.
To keep things interesting while being at home, my family has taken to trying new recipes and eating different items than what we usually do from places we order food from. This is a small sketch of the salad that I got from Panera today, with lots of fruit in it and and a tasty poppy seed dressing. Glad I tried it, it was really tasty! This is definitely an easy way to try new things and keep from feeling stuck in a rut while being stuck at home.

Every week day until June 5th, I'll be posting sketches of one positive thing I am focusing on during this pandemic. While these topics are a reflection of my personal experience and outlook on the current situation, I hope that you may find solace and comfort in their messages as well. Stay safe, wash your hands, and choose to focus on the positive whenever possible! . . #dailydrawings #dailysketches #dailypositivity #positivity #choosethepositive #quarantineart #covid_19art #poscapenart #food #foodillustration #salad #tryingnewthings #tryingnewfoods
Daily Positivity: Rest and Recharge
.
.
One vital thing that we all can do during this pandemic, besides staying home, is making sure that we are getting the proper amount of sleep at night. Good sleep has innumerable benefits including helping keep the body's immune system healthy, aiding in regulating mood and staving off irritability, and allowing for clearer thinking and better decision making. All of these things are vitally important to our wellbeing, especially during a crisis. Even if you feel like you haven't done much because you've been cooped up in the house all day, its still very important to make sure to get enough sleep. Everyone deserves a good night's rest to recharge! The way we take care of others in the age of social distancing is to make sure we take care of ourselves and stay as healthy as we can, and one way we can all contribute is to give ourselves the self-care we need, which definitely includes getting good sleep at night.

Daily Positivity: Sidewalk Solidarity .
.
Branching off a bit from yesterday's post, when I have been able to go on walks around the neighborhood lately, most of the sidewalks have been wonderfully colorful. Kids have been leaving so many encouraging messages and upbeat drawings in chalk everywhere in my neighborhood! Children have such a bright and optimistic outlook in situations like this, and they do their part to help their communities as well, by staying home, sharing positivity, and making short daily walks just a little bit brighter.

Daily Positivity: Keeping Active
.
.
During this time at home, one of the many things I've been focusing on is making sure that I am staying active, eating healthy, and keeping my body moving. With other people at home, this actually gives me more incentive to do workouts and exercises with my family members than I would have under normal circumstances. When possible I like go on neighborhood walks with my family and our dogs (while still practicing safe social distancing). But when that option is not available, home workouts and stretches are always a good option. I dont use anything fancy for these exercises. I just either use items I have from my emergency physical therapy bag for my CRPS (the items in this illustration are an example of some of that), household objects, or no items at all depending on the workout.
Staying active, moving around, and eating healthier are all helping me to physically feel better during this public health crisis.

𝗦𝗼𝗺𝗲𝘁𝗶𝗺𝗲𝘀 𝗶𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗴𝗮𝗺𝗲 𝗼𝗳 𝗹𝗶𝗳𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗼𝗻𝗹𝘆 𝘄𝗮𝘆 𝘁𝗼 𝘄𝗶𝗻 𝗶𝘀 𝗻𝗼𝘁 𝘁𝗼 𝗽𝗹𝗮𝘆.... This phrase really struck a chord with me at the moment.

There’s so much going on in the world right now that it’s so easy to get caught up in the hype.

The media can be really good at that sometimes, causing people to believe stories that are sometimes a little far from the truth... The trick to keeping your sanity in a time like “𝗿𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁 𝗻𝗼𝘄” is to not allow yourself to get caught up in other people’s drama.

𝘽𝙚𝙚𝙣 𝙬𝙖𝙩𝙘𝙝𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙣𝙚𝙬𝙨 𝙘𝙤𝙣𝙨𝙩𝙖𝙣𝙩𝙡𝙮?

Maybe it’s time to switch it off for a while and have a real conversation with someone you love.

𝘽𝙚𝙚𝙣 𝙨𝙘𝙧𝙤𝙡𝙡𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙨𝙤𝙘𝙞𝙖𝙡 𝙢𝙚𝙙𝙞𝙖 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙜𝙚𝙩𝙩𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙘𝙖𝙪𝙜𝙝𝙩 𝙪𝙥 𝙞𝙣 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙝𝙮𝙥𝙚?

Maybe it’s time to put down the phone and read a book or get some fresh air.

𝘽𝙚𝙚𝙣 𝙨𝙩𝙤𝙘𝙠𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙥𝙖𝙣𝙩𝙧𝙮 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙗𝙖𝙩𝙝𝙧𝙤𝙤𝙢 𝙬𝙞𝙩𝙝 𝙣𝙤𝙣-𝙚𝙨𝙨𝙚𝙣𝙩𝙞𝙖𝙡𝙨?

Maybe wait until you’re nearly out of an item before you get a new one in case someone else needs it.

𝘽𝙚𝙚𝙣 𝙗𝙞𝙣𝙜𝙚-𝙬𝙖𝙩𝙘𝙝𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙩𝙧𝙖𝙨𝙝𝙮 𝙨𝙝𝙤𝙬𝙨 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙨𝙘𝙤𝙛𝙛𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙘𝙤𝙢𝙛𝙤𝙧𝙩 𝙛𝙤𝙤𝙙𝙨?

Maybe it’s time to put down the remote and get the body moving and the mind flowing.

Even in these challenging times we have a choice to succumb to the negative atmosphere or make a conscious decision to be better than that.

𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗱𝗼 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗱𝗲𝗰𝗶𝗱𝗲 𝘁𝗼𝗱𝗮𝘆? 😜

Daily Positivity: Time for Thinking
.
.
I think giving ones self dedicated time for thought, recollection, and deeper exploration of our own feelings is an incredibly powerful thing. One odd side effect of this pandemic is that because it has put many routine elements of everyday life on hold, it has subsequently given many people more time to do some deep thinking and personal soul searching. Checking in with yourself on how you are feeling about a current situation, relationship, opportunity, etc. is helpful in making sure we are living the lives we want to live and being aware of our true goals, personality, and interests. I am definitely using this time of being at home to get connected with myself better (although this is something that I already actively do anyway) and to take stock of what is truly most important to me in my life to make sure I am still headed in the directions I want to go in. Then, collecting my energy to pursue the type of life I want to lead through my actions and choices.
.
.
Anyone else using this time of staying at home to do some dedicated thinking/ meditation?

This morning in our Mindful Moment we practised gratitude.
And it IS a practice... with well researched benefits.

According to renowned scholars and scientists, a deep sense of gratitude reduces anxiety and feelings of isolation because it takes us out of our cocoon of self-absorption and entitlement, and helps us connect to something larger than ourselves as individuals — whether that’s to other people, to nature, or to a spiritual or higher power.

Another benefit, from even a short gratitude meditation, is that it can help us get unstuck. Because our brains can sometimes get caught in a loop of anxiety, worry and fear, we have to work at breaking the cycle. Gratitude helps us to shift perspective and open up our minds, allowing us to disentangle ourselves from negative thoughts.

Findings suggest that the effects of practicing gratitude are long-lasting. The feeling of happiness that comes from appreciation may help train the brain to be more sensitive to the experience of gratitude. Gratitude appears to actually rewire our brain so we’re better able to deal with adversity — both in the present moment and also to build reserves we can draw on down the road.
What better way to bring happiness into your life than to grow your gratitude quotient? You may not have control over all the circumstances in your life, but you CAN control what is the focus of your attention. By building the habit of paying close attention to what you have in your life for which you can be grateful, you increase the amount of pleasure you experience, your mood, and ultimately your happiness.

Come join me every weekday morning at 8.45am for 15 mins connection and to reset your day... x

Daily Positivity: Windows Wide Open
.
.
To keep myself feeling connected to the outside world nowadays while staying home, I've been keeping my windows open as much as possible. As a person who enjoys being outdoors, being able to look out my window and see that the wind still blows, rain continues to fall, and the leaves are growing back on the trees around me helps to remind me that earth is still spinning and that we will eventually make it out on the other side of this crisis.
Yesterday I happened to glance outside my window after a thunderstorm and saw one of the best rainbows I had ever seen before in person. Definitely a poetic moment in the midst of this situation. 😄🌈

Here is an illustrated layout of some of my favorite organizational tools and furniture that I use in my workspace. As an artist I already practice making my work space my own and setting it up in a way that works best for me and makes me feel comfortable, but with more and more people working from home these days, I think its important for people to "embrace their space". While we are all staying home to flatten the curve and stop the spread of Covid-19, we can use the opportunity to learn what kind of tools and workspaces each of us works best in, even if for now that means working from home.

Welcome to the newest series of pieces I'll be making titled "Daily Positivity". I'm making these quicker daily pieces as a way for me to channel my "nervous energy" during these scary and unpredictable times we are currently living in during the Covid-19 pandemic.

Daily Positivity: Laughter .
.
I always try to find at least 1 reason to laugh every day. Sometimes it's just something small like an old joke or laughing at myself when trip going up the stairs, but laughing a little each day helps remind me that there's almost always something to smile about and appreciate, even when things dont go as planned. Laughing about the little things helps me to keep everything in proportion and to deal with the bigger things better when they come along.

Daily Positivity: Pet Companionship
In times like these where we have to socially distance from other humans, pets bring even greater comfort than they already do every day! Being able to spend time with an animal companion to keep you company helps to stave off those feelings of isolation and loneliness a bit. Whatever type of pet you may have, be it feathered, furry, or finned, show them some love and let them know how much they mean to you in these tough times, cause they're guaranteed to return that care and comfort in spades! --------------------------------------------- Welcome to the newest series of pieces I'll be making titled "Daily Positivity". Daily Positivity: Learning Opportunity
A self portrait featuring some of my favorite online learning platforms.

One positive thing that I've been focusing on while staying at home is the amount of time I am now able to dedicate to learning. I've been using this inside time as an opportunity to pick up some new skills and brush up on some old ones.
Some of my favorite online learning platforms include YouTube (for quick art tutorials), tinkering around on my Squarespace website (learning about all the cool features it has), and taking some absolutely amazing classes from @svslearn ! Seriously, all the classes I've taken on the platform have been incredibly informative and cover an extensive breadth of subjects revolving around not just the art of illustration, but the business of it as well. I cannot recommend them enough. If you are an aspiring or professional illustrator/artist, definitely go check them out on their website and their podcast 3 Point Perspective! -------------------------------------------------------------------- Welcome to the newest series of pieces I'll be making titled "Daily Positivity". Daily Positivity: Connected... Even When Apart

This pandemic may be scary and strange, and social distancing keeps people physically separated... but we aren't alone. We are all in this together on this earth. Hop on a group video chat with friends, call a loved one, follow and support local businesses with online ordering! In the age of social distancing, it is the digital age that ultimately wins out and allows people to stay connected... even when apart. --------------------------- Welcome to the newest series of pieces I'll be making titled "Daily Positivity". Daily Positivity: Reading
Being stuck in the house doesn't have to be boring. Reading is a great indoor activity to keep the mind occupied! I've been using this time to catch up on books from past bag book sales and others that I got but haven't gotten around to reading until now.
Some books I've read recently and really enjoyed are "Deep Work" by Cal Newport and "Brave Enough" by Cheryl Strayed. I've also been reading various collections of classic fairy tales and folk tales. What's a book you have enjoyed reading recently? Got good book reccomendations? Post it in the comments below. I'd love to hear what books are helping others pass the time lately! ---------------------------------- Welcome to the newest series of pieces I'll be making titled "Daily Positivity". Daily Positivity: Creative Expression

Today's post is all about the value of open creative expression and willingness to make mistakes and create for the sake of making art. This year, coming off the heels of being in art school for the past four years, its been ingrained in me that "all the work I make must be labored over and serve a deeper purpose... it has to be "good" or else it's a waste of time". Now while this was never directly said to me by anyone at either art school that I attended, I'm sure the majority of students would agree that this sentiment is kind of just an unspoken and unfortunate side effect of being an artist in general. Especially during these trying times, it is important to remind ourselves that creativity and art are forces for renewal and are meant to be fun! Making art just for the sake of doing so can be incredibly freeing, alleviate boredom, and keep one busy when stuck inside the house for long stretches of time. Art is for anyone and everyone who wants to give it a try... and speaking as an artist, its important that we let ourselves explore and fully enjoy making art just like everyone else. Finished and meticulously crafted works of art certainly have their place, but so does unstructured open creativity!

Daily Positivity: Focus on the Positives There is a lot of uncertainty and disheartening facts and information circulating amongst the coronavirus pandemic we all find ourselves living in at the moment. For me, as a naturally anxious person with a chronic neurological condition (whose physical well-being and pain levels are directly tied to my mental state) I truly believe that now, more than ever, it is critical to focus on the positives as much as possible. I'm certainly not qualified to quantify any negative details about this pandemic as a whole, but I feel that EVERYONE is qualified to take stock of their own situation and QUANTIFY THEIR POSITIVES. For me personally, being an optimist and seeing the good side of things is an active choice that I choose constantly. I've trained myself to "see the glass as half full" since my CRPS diagnosis, over a decade ago. I've learned from deeply personal experience that one of the best ways to fight off fear, uncertainty, and panic is to make the active CHOICE to FOCUS ON THE POSITIVES. It's in stressful times like these, amid the age of Covid-19, that I find myself applying the chosen perspective I've learned from my CRPS journey, to my everyday outlook on life, more than ever before.
