This photo is fake and I just thought you should know🤷🏽♀️
I’ve lived in this state my whole life and up until now, have never visited Death Valley. Since the rise of Instagram spots, i’m constantly seeing epic photos of Death Valley and of course, I felt like I just had to see it for myself.
This photo isn’t ALL fake of course. The entire composition is unchanged from the original shot but all these colors...its art, not reality, and the only reason I chose to brush in these tones and tints is because I believe in stealing like an artist. There are maybe 3-4 photographers I really look up to in their art and I was honestly a bit disappointed to visit this spot in real life and realize, “OMG they were all lying to me about this place!” It was still beautiful just very different than the picture people have painted (literally). Nevertheless, the way they chose to create their images in post-processing made for something really moving and breathtaking and it’s what I also aspire to create in my images.
So long winded point is: Death Valley is still pretty but it’s not like this, Instagram may or may not be causing unnecessary overtourism in these beautiful places, I would never spend an hour editing 1 photo if it weren’t for quarantine, don’t believe everything you see on social media (especially at a time like this), and finally, create what inspires YOU whether it seems dumb, illogical, or straight up bad. It doesn’t matter. Creating is all about creation itself. Create because it’s fun to create.
