I woke up to some of the saddest news to hit the #cannabiscommunity
. Our little warrior, our trailblazer, and our leader, Charlotte Figi died on Tuesday, April 7, 2020, as a result of the coronavirus. She was 13.
For those of you who don’t know the story of #CharlotteFigi
, this little girl is responsible for the cannabis movement we have today, not only in the United States, but across the world.
Living with Dravet’s syndrome, a rare form of debilitating epilepsy that affects young children and suffered hundreds of small seizures a day from the time she was 3 months old. By the age of 5, Charlotte struggled with walking, and couldn’t feed herself, and used a feeding tube.
Desperate to help her little daughter have the quality of life every child should, her mother, Paige Figi had heard of the possibility of treating seizures with cannabis, and connected with Colorado's Joel Stanley who, along with his brothers, had helped developed a strain of cannabis rich in CBD. In honor of Charlotte, #TheStanleyBrothers
created the CBD strain we hold dear to our CBD-loving hearts: #CharlottesWeb
Paige Figi was amazed when she saw Charlotte’s seizures dramatically decrease, and quality of life came back to her daughter.
She was featured in Dr. Sanjay Gupta’s 2013 documentary WEED, and Charlotte Figi became everyone in the cannabis community’s hero. Charlotte’s story sparked hundreds of families that were affected by Dravet’s syndrome to make the medical cannabis pilgrimage to Colorado and other medical cannabis states.
Last month, it was announced by the family that Charlotte had been off her feeding tube for 5 years. The cannabis community was overjoyed to see the progress of our little #CBD
I’m totally gutted to hear that it wasn’t Dravet’s syndrome that led Charlotte to lose her life: it was coronavirus. Had this ugly virus not infiltrated our communities, Charlotte would have had a chance to grow up, and continue to be the inspirational young woman we’ve always known her to be.
I send my deepest condolences to the Figis, The Stanley Brothers, and everyone who was inspired deeply by this little girl.
Rest peacefully, Ch
